Job Summary

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago invites applications for part-time Lecturers in Chinese. The selected candidate will have part-time teaching opportunities in various courses of the Chinese Language curriculum. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching language courses at various levels (elementary intermediate and/or advanced) holding regularly scheduled office hours and the preparing and grading of assignments and testing materials. Depending on the curricular needs of the department the successful candidate may teach between one and four courses per academic year.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union. The per-course salary for academic year 2026-27 will be at least $9193. This position is not benefits eligible.



Applicants must hold a Masters degree or equivalent in a field related to Chinese Language pedagogy superior proficiency in Chinese and English according to ACTFL guidelines and experience teaching Chinese at the college or post-secondary level.
