Job Summary

Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG) is on a mission to close the STEM gender gap one hands-on science class one confident girl at a time. Were looking for a creative detail-driven Communications Coordinator to help us tell that story to the world.

If you love turning a classroom moment into a scroll-stopping Instagram post a donor newsletter into a page-turner or a press pitch into a headline this is your role.

The Communications Coordinator position is part-time hourly non-exempt. This role reports directly to the Director of Development and Communications and plays a central part in communications and marketing.

COMMITMENT:

  • 15 - 20 hrs / week
  • Monday - Friday; specific days and hours to be finalized
  • Required in the office 3 days per week (hybrid schedule) based on organizational needs
  • Based out of our Berkeley office with occasional local travel (e.g. networking events fundraising events visiting printers)

YOUR ROLE IN A NUTSHELL

  • Own our social presence using agency strategy create and publish content across Instagram Facebook LinkedIn and beyond
  • Design and format newsletters & email campaigns that keep donors families and volunteers engaged
  • Capture the magic attend programs and events to gather photos videos and stories straight from the source
  • Keep our website fresh update content program info and event listings
  • Submit and track press releases sent to appropriate news outlets and reporters
  • Bring events to life design flyers invitations and promotional materials and provide live coverage on-site

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR:

A qualified candidate will possess a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:

  • 24 years of experience in communications marketing journalism or PR
  • A sharp eye for visual storytelling (Canva Adobe Creative Suite or similar)
  • Comfort with social platforms email marketing tools (Mailchimp Constant Contact etc.) and a CRM or database
  • Strong writing chops and the organizational skills to juggle multiple projects at once
  • A valid drivers license and reliable transportation for occasional local travel
  • Bonus points: nonprofit experience Spanish (or other multilingual) skills or a soft spot for STEM/youth programming

  • Ability to work at a computer and perform repetitive motions 70% of the time.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move office supplies and equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed (e.g. networking events).
  • Ability to be physically present in the office 3 days per week.
