Licenses and Certifications:-Registry of Interpreters and/or National Association of the Deaf certification(s)Education and Experience:-Completion of at least 48 semester units of study at an accredited institution of higher education; OR- Possession of an Associated Degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education; OR- Demonstration of a rigorous standard of quality through a state or local assessment including knowledge of and the ability to assist in instruction in reading writing and mathematics; AND- A score of 4.0 or above on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment the Educational Sign Skills Evaluation-Interpreter and Receptive or the National Association of the Deaf/American Consortium assessment as well as an internship in a special education class or experience interpreting/translating for deaf and hard of hearing children.
