PARAEDUCATORBEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONISTDEFINITION:The Paraeducator Behavior Interventionist under the direction of the Coordinator of SpecialEducation assists a teacher in providing instruction to behaviorally challenged individuals orsmall groups of students; monitors redirects and modifies student progress regardinginappropriate behaviors and performance; assists in meeting special needs which may includefeeding and toileting students; administers Intensive Behavior Intervention programs toidentified special education students; performs a variety of clerical duties as DUTIES: Assists in providing instruction to behaviorally challenged individuals or smallgroups of students. Tutors individuals or small groups of students reinforcinginstruction as directed by the teacher. Administers one-to-one Intensive Behavior Intervention to students in a school orhome setting; participates in Intensive Behavior Intervention in-services. Collects data and records anecdotal student progress notes; maintains behavioralcharting data. Monitors and assists special education students in prescribed learning activities. Monitors observes and reports behavior of students according to approvedprocedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior. Assists students and parents by providing proper examples emotional support afriendly attitude and general guidance. Communicates with teachers regarding the individual needs of special educationstudents; provides input regarding student progress. Confers with teachers as needed concerning programs and materials to meet studentneeds. Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices andregulations. Assists special education students in learning proper personal hygiene and indeveloping self-help skills as assigned. Assists students with personal hygiene; washes hands and faces; monitors individualtoilet training schedules; toilets students and changes diapers; changes clothing asneeded. Prepares instructional materials administers and scores tests and drills; reviews dataand reports concerns. Administers First Aid and CPR as needed to students with chronic and acute medicalconditions. Performs a variety of clerical duties according to established guidelines. Directs group activities of students as assigned. Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned. Performs related tasks as :Knowledge of: Behavior management and techniques used with special needs populations. Intensive Behavior Intervention techniques. Child guidance principles and practices especially as they relate to students withlearning disabilities developmental delays and autistic behavior. Basic subjects taught in District schools including arithmetic grammar spellinglanguage and reading. Appropriate developmental skills. Safe practices in classroom and playground activities. Basic instructional methods and techniques. Correct English usage grammar spelling punctuation and vocabulary. Appropriate interpersonal relations using tact patience and courtesy. Basic record-keeping skills. Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures. Proper lifting techniques. District policies rules and to: Implement behavior management techniques used with special needs populations. Implement training techniques and chart behavior. Assist with instructional and related activities of a special education learningenvironment. Understanding the exceptional needs of special education students. Monitor and observe student behavior according to approved policies and procedures. Develop rapport and relate to students with physical mental or learning disabilities. Perform routine clerical duties such as filing duplicating and maintaining records. Make arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate through an assessment theknowledge and ability to assist in instruction. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Observe health and safety regulations Work cooperatively with Certification: High school graduate or equivalent. An associates degree or higher. Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education. Two years experience working with children in an organized setting. One year experience observing and collecting student behavioral charting datapreferred. Training in implementing Intensive Behavior Intervention DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
