Job Description:

The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering offers ABET-accredited B.S. programs in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering M.S. programs in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering as well as a graduate certificate in 3D Engineering and Additive Fall 2025 the department enrolled 1735 students including 1590 undergraduates 75 masters students and 70 doctoral students. The departmenthas an active collaborative research culture and strong engagement of graduate students. Faculty have access to extensive research infrastructure and interdisciplinary partnerships including the Aerospace Center the W.M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation and the Advanced Manufacturing and Aerospace Center. The new approximately 93000-square-foot $80 million Advanced Manufacturing and Aerospace Center expands laboratories teaching spaces and collaboration opportunities in advanced manufacturing aerospace systems materials autonomy and related fields.

The Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for two Mechanical Engineering faculty positions beginning in Fall 2027. The successful candidates will establish or expand nationally recognized externally funded research programs; teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; mentor students; contribute to departmental and university service; and collaborate across disciplinary boundaries. Candidates in the listed primary emphasis areas are particularly encouraged to apply but all areas of mechanical engineering will be considered. The senior appointment is intended for a scholar with a sustained record of research leadership who can help anchor major collaborative initiatives mentor junior faculty and students and lead center-scale or multi-investigator proposals for all areas of mechanical engineering; particular interest in autonomy advanced materials and manufacturing. The assistant professor appointment is intended for an emerging scholar with a compelling research vision and strong potential for externally funded scholarship for all areas of mechanical engineering; particular interest in energy materials semiconductor materials and advanced manufacturing.

Requirements:

Assistant Professor

  • An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field by the anticipated start date.
  • Evidence of research achievement and strong potential to develop an externally funded research program.
  • Potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and student mentoring.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and service to the department university and profession.

Associate or Full Professor

  • An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field and qualifications appropriate for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor at UTEP.
  • A sustained record of nationally or internationally recognized scholarship and externally funded research.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate-student mentoring and professional service.
  • Evidence of research leadership collaborative program development and the ability to mentor faculty and students.
