Job Summary
- JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
SchoolCrossing Guardsare responsible forensuring thesafe crossing of schoolchildren andother pedestrians at designatedschool zones crossings. This position promotes the safety ofstudents travelingto and from school bymonitoring traffic flow controlling pedestrian movementexpediating school bus ingress/egress andmaintaininga visible and professional presence during assigned purpose is to protect children from traffic hazardsand enhance the overall safety intheir assigned areas.
- ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide asafepathforschool childrento crossstreetsat designated intersections.
- Inform school children and other pedestrians aboutsafecrossingpractices.
- Providetraffic direction and control whenrequiredto expediate theingressand egressof School Buses dropping off or picking up students.
- Reportdangerous situations and erratic driver behaviors to law enforcement or supervision.
- Remain alert and observantof traffic conditions weather and other factors which mayimpactthe safety of studentsand pedestrians.
- Utilizes allassigned safety equipmentwhen conducting crossings orassistingwith traffic flow.
- Must be able to perform their duties without direct supervision and exercise independent judgementin completing assignments.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:- Excellent oralandcommunication skills.
- Ability to communicate and provide detailed instructionclearly and confidently to individualsor largegroups.
- EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma GED or higher level ofeducation.
- Successfullypass traffic control and school crossingguard certification courses.
- Prior law enforcement of traffic control experience preferred.
- SUPPLMENTAL INFORMATION:
- Must be able to hold and lift a handheld sign weighing approximately 2 pounds for extended periods of time (310-minute intervals)
- Work in a variant of temperatures and situations based upon weather and time of year.
- Must be able to stand and walk for two or more hours at a time.
REQUIREMENTS:- Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
- Must not have any felony convictions or been arrested for crimes against children.
- Valid Florida Drivers License.
- Able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather.
- ***Physicians certification verifying ability to perform essential functions would be required***

Pay Rate: $26.50/HR
GENERAL PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
- Demonstrates polite helpful and courteous behavior respecting cultural differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.
- Responds to supervision guidance and direction in a positive receptive manner.
- Must be appropriately dressed and groomed.
- Reports to work promptly and properly prepared notifying supervisor of intended absences.
- Acts in a professional manner following established protocols and procedures.
An oral board with job-related questions and/or scenarios will be administered on a date specifically set with all potential candidates notified at least three days in advance of the specified date. The oral board passing score will be 80% or higher. The candidate with the highest score may be offered the position. The Sheriff reserves the right to make selections from internal or external sources.
