In this role youll serve as the primary point of contact for taxpayers seeking property tax reduction supporting the Exemption Department by intaking applications and guiding applicants through Washington States eligibility requirements. Youll respond to taxpayer inquiries in person online and over the phone addressing questions about adjustments refunds appraisals and valuations.


Work you will support includes:

  • Helping people find the right jurisdiction or department for property use questions
  • Updating taxpayer records such as name or address changes
  • Researching and resolving returned mail
  • Assisting taxpayers in applying for tax reduction programs
  • Preparing and scanning mail and documents
  • Providing general administrative support

The Assessor-Treasurers Office is responsible for the mass appraisal of real and personal property in Pierce County for purposes of assessing property taxes. How to be Successful in the Role:

We are looking for someone who takes pride in delivering excellent customer service follows direction well and can work both independently and as part of a team. Reliability strong problem-solving skills the ability to anticipate needs and a clear understanding that communication and customer service come first are essential. You should be detail-oriented accurate and computer savvy. Proficiency in multitasking and in Microsoft Office programs (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook) is also important.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a variety of routine material and correspondence from written material and recording; proofread and ensure correct grammar spelling punctuation and capitalization on department correspondence.
  • Organize maintain and retrieve information and documents from files and records.
  • Maintain simple bookkeeping financial and statistical records requiring some technical accounting knowledge; receive and receipt various payments fees and fines; makes proper distribution and record entries or code incoming material for further processing.
  • Perform receptionist and general office duties; respond to routine inquiries by telephone or person-to-person; fulfill requests for publications or office supplies.
  • Receive and process routine to moderately complex forms and applications i.e. determines regulatory or procedural compliance; computes or verifies data fees or payments; assists in the proper completion of forms or documents; and researches governing directives to answer questions and resolve routine problems encountered. May also provide information and advice in response to questions raised by the public served.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
