This program is designed for students to observe the role and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse (RN) perform a variety of skills learned as a nursing student ease the transition from student to GraduateNurse and provide student nurses an opportunity to enhance their clinical skills.

In the program student nurses from BSN/ADN programs with senior status as of the following Fall semester are selected as Nurse Interns (NI). Each NI is assigned to an RN who serves as the NI Preceptor. The NI will function under the direct supervision of his/her RN monitoring during the program. Potential departments include:

• Medical-Surgical
• Critical Care
• Women and Children
• Surgical Services
• Other specialty departments

Some of the skills that an Intern can perform are:

• Tube Feedings
• Suctioning (oral nasal tracheal)
• Venipuncture under supervision
• Basic C.N.A./PCA Skills
• Glucometers
• Foley Cather insertion
