The Mechanical Engineering intern will work closely with a mechanical engineering mentor as well as with electrical engineers maintenance and production teammates to execute continuous improvement projects on-site. The responsibilities as a mechanical engineering intern will vary day to day as the position is involved in many different aspects of engineering.
The responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Nucor include but are not limited to:
- Design and implementation of new systems and modification of existing equipment
- Improve production and maintenance processes keeping accurate documentation for all improvements in the area of responsibility.
- Provide technical expertise with regard to mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Failure analysis/troubleshooting
- Work in cooperation with other departments or teams
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Seeking a 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (Aerospace and ISE will be considered)
- Minimum collegiate GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future).
- Finite Element Analysis (Nastran/Patran or similar)
- Experience with SolidWorks 20/30 CAD and/or other equivalent modeling software.
