NSBHM Melt Shop Maintenance Technician

Nucor Steel Birmingham is seeking qualified applicants for the position of mechanical maintenance technician. This role will support the maintenance team in but not limited to safely maintaining troubleshooting and repairing industrial and mobile equipment. Additionally this role will support the implementation of new equipment and machinery upgrades. The successful candidate will simultaneously work closely with our production team. This is a developmental position which will be paid hourly plus production bonus. There will be an initial training period in which the awarded candidate will work straight day shift (Monday Friday). Following the brief introductory period this role will work a rotating shift schedule. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate lead and uphold safety policies practices procedures and housekeeping standards at all times.

1. 3 years prior industrial mechanical maintenance experience
2. Understanding of mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
3. Willing to work weekends holidays rotating shifts scheduled and unscheduled overtime
4. Passing score of 80% on a written technical exam administered onsite at Nucor Birmingham

1. Academic coursework in engineering military training technical degree or industrial equipment training
2. Experience operating mobile equipment including overhead cranes
3. Experience with various welding and oxygen/fuel cutting operations
4. Understanding of basic electrical theory
