One of LSCs Child and Family communities is seeking a full-time Education Coordinator in Asheville North Carolina.

Position Summary

The Education Coordinator works with newly arrived refugee and immigrant children and their families through the School Impact Program and Youth Mentoring Program. This position helps students improve academic performance social adjustment and school engagement while supporting parents in becoming active participants in their childrens education. The Education Coordinator serves as a liaison between students families and schools coordinating educational activities tutoring mentoring programs parent engagement initiatives and community-based learning opportunities.

Essential Responsibilities
Student Support & Youth Programming
  • Engage eligible children in after-school programs designed to improve academic success and social adjustment.
  • Coordinate tutoring mentoring educational enrichment and extracurricular activities.
  • Support vulnerable youth populations including adolescents and LGBTQ youth through age-appropriate educational and developmental programming.
  • Facilitate workshops and activities covering topics such as bullying prevention substance abuse awareness social development and life skills.
  • Promote student participation in educational recreational and community activities.
School & Family Engagement
  • Assist families with school enrollment and orientation processes.
  • Serve as a liaison between students families and school personnel.
  • Consult with teachers counselors and school administrators regarding student progress and adjustment.
  • Advocate for students and address concerns impacting educational success.
  • Help families understand school expectations resources and opportunities.
Parent-Focused Activities
  • Develop and implement activities that encourage parent engagement in their childrens education.
  • Conduct home visits and school visits as appropriate.
  • Coordinate parent conferences and educational workshops.
  • Assist families with school paperwork requirements and communication with schools.
  • Facilitate educational activities including ESL opportunities and workshops that strengthen family involvement and school participation.
Program Support
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to program activities.
  • Coordinate educational events and special projects.
  • Collaborate with schools community organizations volunteers and service providers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Refugee Services Coordinator.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Equivalent years of teaching experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience
  • Experience working with refugee immigrant or newly arrived families preferred.
  • Experience working with children adolescents families schools or educational programs preferred.
  • Experience coordinating educational youth development or community programs is a plus.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to cultural linguistic and socioeconomic differences.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with community partners and school personnel.
  • Flexible patient and solution-focused approach to working with children and families.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technology tools.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid drivers license required.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to transport clients in a personal vehicle when necessary.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily in-person work in Asheville NC.
  • Combination of office school home and community-based settings.
  • Frequent interaction with children families school personnel and community partners.
  • Local travel required for school visits home visits meetings and program activities.
  • Ability to sit stand walk and work at a computer for extended periods.
