Network Deployment Engineer (CUT Operations)

The hours will in the window of 9pm - 8am CST but it could shift within that window to something like 10p-6a CST if that was when the maintenance windows were. The days will be Sunday thru Thursday for the most part though.
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and execution-focused Network Deployment Engineer to support complex network change activities within a controlled maintenance (CUT) environment. This role is responsible for executing Method of Procedures (MOPs) performing network configuration changes validating system performance and ensuring service continuity across enterprise network infrastructures.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience across Layer 1 3 networking including routing switching and physical infrastructure combined with the ability to operate in high-pressure real-time deployment windows.
Responsibilities
Network Change Execution
Execute network changes (cuts) in accordance with approved MOPs ensuring precision and adherence to established procedures.
Perform routing switching transport device swaps and other service-impacting activities in production environments.
Validate pre-cut and post-cut conditions to ensure network stability and compliance with defined acceptance criteria.
Implement and support configurations across VLANs trunk and access ports port-channels and spine-leaf architectures.
Execute and validate routing protocol changes including BGP and OSPF.
Configure and validate first-hop redundancy technologies such as HSRP to ensure high availability.
Perform configuration and troubleshooting on Cisco Nexus platforms and data center switching environments.
Utilize MAC address tables ARP tables and spanning tree topology to verify proper network convergence and traffic flow.
Bridge Operations & Communication
Participate in scheduled maintenance bridges providing real-time updates execution confirmations and issue reporting.
Collaborate with CUT Administrators Engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure visibility and coordination during change windows.
Clearly communicate technical status risks and issues particularly related to connectivity routing switching or platform-specific behaviors (e.g. Nexus environments).
Escalate deviations failures or unexpected outcomes promptly to leadership.
Operational Accuracy & Documentation
Follow MOPs exactly as written and provide feedback on gaps risks or improvement opportunities.
Capture detailed execution logs including timestamps command outputs and validation results.
Support validation of rollback procedures during failed or interrupted changes.
Interpret and execute based on network design documentation and Bill of Materials (BOM) ensuring correct hardware optics (QSFP/SFP) and configuration deployment.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
Perform real-time troubleshooting during and after change execution when expected outcomes are not achieved.
Diagnose Layer 1 3 issues including physical connectivity (fiber vs. copper) VLAN misconfigurations spanning tree issues and routing inconsistencies.
Identify and resolve issues related to optics (QSFP/SFP) cabling port-channels and protocol adjacencies.
Escalate complex technical issues to engineering or Tier 3 teams as needed.
Support root cause analysis by collecting relevant technical data during incidents.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
Provide feedback to engineers and MOP authors to improve execution procedures and repeatability.
Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to deployment processes and methodologies.
Support alignment between design BOM and execution to minimize risk during network changes.
Required Qualifications
Strong understanding of Layer 1 networking including:
Fiber vs. copper cabling
Multimode (MM) vs. single-mode (SM) fiber
Transceivers (QSFP SFP)
Solid knowledge of Layer 2/3 networking concepts including:
MAC address tables and ARP tables
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
VLANs (trunk vs. access ports)
Port-channels / link aggregation
Hands-on experience with Cisco Nexus switches and data center networking environments.
Experience with first-hop redundancy protocols (HSRP).
Experience with network architectures including spine-leaf design.
Hands-on experience with routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
Ability to execute and interpret MOPs (Method of Procedure) documentation.
Familiarity with network design documentation and BOMs.
Strong troubleshooting skills in production environments.
Ability to work in high-pressure real-time maintenance windows.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in large-scale data center or enterprise network deployments.
Prior involvement in CUT/maintenance window operations.
Exposure to multi-vendor environments (Cisco Arista Juniper etc.).
Experience with Nexus-specific technologies (e.g. vPC) is a strong plus.
Work Environment
Participation in after-hours or overnight maintenance windows is required.
