Job Summary


SeamonWhiteside is seeking an experienced entrepreneurial and technically strong professional to serve as the North Carolina Regional Natural Resources Team Leader. This role will lead the growth delivery and quality of SW stormwater stream restoration floodplain management and green infrastructure services across North Carolina including watershed planning stormwater control measures drainage improvements hydrologic and hydraulic modeling FEMA flood studies flood mitigation stream stabilization and restoration nature-based solutions permitting and related public and private sector infrastructure services.


The ideal candidate is a proven water resources leader with strong technical judgment client relationship skills business development experience and the ability to mentor and grow a high-performing regional team. This position will be accountable for building market presence developing client relationships managing project delivery supporting team development and advancing SW standards culture and profitability within the North Carolina stormwater stream restoration floodplain management and green infrastructure practice.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead and grow SW stormwater stream restoration floodplain management and green infrastructure services across North Carolina with emphasis on client service technical excellence quality control team development and profitable project delivery.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with municipal county state institutional and private sector clients as well as strategic partners regulatory agencies and teaming firms.
  • Identify pursue and support new business opportunities including proposals scopes fee development interviews and client presentations.
  • Serve as principal-in-charge senior project manager or technical advisor for stormwater stream restoration flood mitigation and green infrastructure projects as appropriate.
  • Oversee planning design permitting bidding and construction-phase services for stormwater control measures drainage systems watershed improvements stream restoration and stabilization floodplain modifications flood mitigation projects and nature-based infrastructure.
  • Lead or support hydrologic and hydraulic analyses 1D and 2D modeling watershed studies floodplain mapping scour assessments stormwater retrofit evaluations BMP design and resilience-focused planning efforts.
  • Support green infrastructure and low-impact development strategies including bioretention bioswales constructed wetlands permeable pavement regenerative stormwater conveyance infiltration practices and water quality retrofits.
  • Coordinate with SW civil engineering landscape architecture planning surveying and construction administration teams to deliver integrated site design and community resilience solutions.
  • Mentor project managers engineers designers and emerging leaders; support recruiting onboarding training career development and performance feedback.
  • Promote consistent use of SW standards tools workflows quality processes and project management practices.
  • Monitor team workload staffing needs project financial performance schedules risk regulatory requirements and client satisfaction.
  • Represent SW in professional organizations conferences community engagement efforts and industry events across North Carolina.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelors degree in civil engineering Environmental Engineering Biosystems Engineering Water Resources Engineering Biological and Agricultural Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferably in North Carolina or ability to obtain North Carolina licensure within an agreed timeframe.
  • 10 or more years of progressively responsible stormwater water resources stream restoration floodplain management or green infrastructure experience preferably with a consulting engineering municipal stormwater or infrastructure design firm.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects managing clients developing scopes and budgets and delivering quality technical work.
  • Strong understanding of North Carolina stormwater regulations erosion and sediment control post-construction stormwater management riparian buffers floodplain management environmental permitting and applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Experience with stormwater control measures hydrologic and hydraulic modeling watershed studies flood mitigation stream stabilization stream restoration or green infrastructure design.
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent written verbal organizational and client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to balance technical leadership business development project management and team leadership responsibilities.


Desired Skills


  • Masters degree in civil environmental biological and agricultural water resources or related engineering discipline.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Envision Sustainability Professional Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) or similar credential.
  • Existing relationships with North Carolina municipalities counties stormwater utilities state agencies developers higher education institutions watershed groups or resilience-focused funding partners.
  • Experience with FEMA flood studies stormwater master planning drainage capital improvement planning watershed planning stream and wetland restoration stormwater retrofits water quality improvements flood mitigation or nature-based solutions.
  • Familiarity with common stormwater and water resources modeling and design tools such as HEC-RAS HEC-HMS SWMM GIS platforms HydroCAD Civil 3D or similar applications.
  • Experience building or scaling a service line regional practice or technical team.

  • General office environment: Works generally at a desk in a well-lit air-conditioned cubicle/office with moderate noise levels.

Physical Demands


  • Activities require a significant amount of sitting at a desk and in front of a computer monitor.
