NAGPRA/CALNAGPRA REPATRIATION COORDINATOR

California State University Los Angeles invites applications for the above Administrator I position.

The Position: California State University Los Angeles is seeking a NAGPRA/CalNAGPRA Repatriation Coordinator to assist with facilitating the Universitys compliance with federal and state NAGPRA and CalNAGPRA legislation including the California Assembly Bills: AB 275 and AB389. The Repatriation Coordinator will work with the Presidents Designee assisting with the Universitys good faith efforts to repatriate ancestral human remains and cultural items in a respectful and timely manner. The NAGPRA/CalNAGPRA coordinator reports to the Chief of Staff.

Required Qualifications & Experience: A bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Anthropology Museum Studies Native American Studies Historic Preservation or other related field. The incumbent must have administrative experience; establishing goals and workload priorities and following tasks through to successful completion; and working with Federally and non-Federally recognized tribes preferably California Native American Tribes. The incumbent must have knowledge of procedures for compliance with the Federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act NAGPRA- 25 U.S. C. 3001-13) and its accompanying regulations 43 C.F.R. I0.1-.17) as well as relevant State legislation including CalNAGPRA (AB978) and its amendments i.e. AB2 75 AB389). The incumbent must have highly skilled communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations and resolve problems; to communicate clearly and professionally; and to develop and sustain collegial working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The incumbent must have the ability to work effectively with Native American communities preferably with California Native American Tribes and tribal communities including engaging in genuine tribal consultation and recognition ofTribal sovereignty; interpret archival data (e.g. archaeological field notes) to determine presence of burials and cultural items as defined under NAGPRA; proficient in MS Office Suite Programs including Teams Excel and/or other database programs and data management systems (e.g. Access); meticulous attention to detail; and to establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with administrators faculty and staff. The incumbent must have demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. The incumbent must have a valid CA Driver License or eligibility to obtain one within a reasonable time upon hire. Incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position. A task may be included as part of the interview process.

California State University Los Angeles as part of the CSU system is a State of California Employer. Desired Qualifications: Masters Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Cultural Resources Management. Anthropology Archaeology Native American Studies or History of Native American people. Demonstrated experience with collection management best practices and standards; work with archaeological collections and associated archival records; with establishing and building working relationships with tribal communities including culturally respectful and appropriate guidelines issued by tribal nations and/or their official designees of record. Familiarity with current literature relating to anthropology archaeology Native American cultures of North America and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) and pertinent State laws. Knowledge of CSU processes protocols and procedures. Ability to communicate and adhere to tribal requests regarding the care and storage of ancestral human remains and cultural items.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $4135 - $12288/monthly. Budgeted hiring salary range is $ 7000 - $9833/monthly. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.

Appointment: The Administrator I appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.

This position is a designated position in the California State Universitys Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
