Duties

The National Gallery of Art of Art serves the nation by welcoming all people to explore and experience artcreativity and our shared humanity. The Office of Visitor Experience (DD-VE) welcomes visitors to themuseum by listening orienting and assisting them to ensure that they have positive and meaningfulexperiences.

As a Museum Technician you will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Gallery floor plans including layout of collections/exhibitions restaurants gift shops and entrances/exits.
  • Keep informed of the Gallerys calendar of events service tools special events and daily offerings. Demonstrate strong understanding of the neighborhood and other amenities that would benefit both local visitors and tourists from around the world.
  • Check coats and other personal items in checkrooms. Answers incoming calls to gallery phone lines.
  • Provide access control for general admission and other events or special exhibitions.
  • Reserve passes and event reservations.
  • Assist with data entry and clean-up preparing museum mailings training incoming employees responding to online correspondence.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement;

4 years above high school leading to a bachelors degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field

OR

Specialized Experience Statement:Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility to the GS-04 level in the Federal service or private sector providing customer service to museum patrons and providing administrative support such as assisting with data entry and responding to online correspondence.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
