Multimedia Technician II
The Multimedia Technician II provides reliable safe and high-quality audiovisual (A/V) systems and support for K12 instructional environments district meetings events and facilities. This position designs installs programs maintains and troubleshoots A/V and related low-voltage systems; supports district-wide multimedia operations; maintains records and inventory; and coordinates with internal teams and external vendors to ensure systems are functional scalable and cost-effective.
Essential Functions
- Supports district A/V needs by setting up operating and troubleshooting multimedia systems for instruction conferences special events board meetings and other district activities in venues such as auditoriums stadiums gyms and meeting spaces (e.g. audio mixers wired/wireless microphones projectors interactive displays cameras) for the purpose of ensuring dependable audio/video performance and timely user support.
- Prepares deploys and retrieves multimedia equipment and materials (e.g. microphones speakers mixers projectors cameras displays cabling accessories) for the purpose of ensuring requested equipment is delivered on time and in proper working condition.
- Monitors the multimedia incident/ticket queue and provides technical support for issues of varying complexity for the purpose of restoring services quickly reducing repeat incidents and maintaining consistent system uptime and customer service.
- Maintains site-based bell/intercom/clock systems including hardware upkeep bell schedule creation/loading troubleshooting and time synchronization of master and secondary clocks for the purpose of ensuring reliable school-wide communications and accurate timekeeping.
- Provides classroom and presentation support by verifying that A/V systems (including but not limited to projectors interactive displays control systems sound reinforcement document cameras and web cameras) are installed configured and functioning for the purpose of enabling instruction and presentations with minimal disruption.
- Performs preventative maintenance and functional checks on multimedia equipment and infrastructure for the purpose of extending equipment life reducing downtime and maintaining high-quality audio/video performance.
- Programs configures and maintains advanced presentation and conferencing technologies (e.g. control processors audio DSPs touch panels digital signage platforms) including logic updates TCP/IP/network addressing and firmware upgrades for the purpose of keeping systems secure current and operationally consistent across district sites.
- Installs and supports analog and digital A/V infrastructure including pulling and terminating Cat-5/Cat-6 cabling; installing A/V control systems; securely mounting racks and components; and deploying displays projectors speakers microphones and related devices for the purpose of delivering safe standards-aligned and reliable A/V system installations.
- Interprets and applies technical documentation such as system drawings infrastructure diagrams product manuals and white papers for the purpose of accurately installing troubleshooting and maintaining multimedia systems to manufacturer and district standards.
- Uses and maintains hand tools power tools lifts/booms (as assigned) and test equipment (e.g. audio test equipment digital multimeter cable termination tools) for the purpose of completing installations and repairs safely efficiently and to quality expectations.
- Designs A/V system solutions and coordinates installation schedules for new or expanded systems in classrooms offices conference rooms gyms multipurpose spaces and support facilities for the purpose of ensuring systems are implemented with appropriate scope sequencing and minimal disruption to district operations.
- Participates in new construction and remodel planning and collaborates with district departments and outside vendors/contractors for the purpose of aligning multimedia/technology installations with overall project timelines specifications and district requirements.
- Works as part of a technician team to complete assigned projects; works independently to resolve assigned site requests; and assists with knowledge sharing or training as needed for the purpose of increasing department capacity service consistency and overall uptime of hardware software and systems.
- Provides basic user guidance as appropriate (e.g. teachers school personnel students) on operating district-standard multimedia equipment and related applications for the purpose of promoting effective use of technology while reducing avoidable support incidents.
- Researches and evaluates new products and technologies applicable to district multimedia needs for the purpose of recommending solutions that improve reliability usability standardization and future readiness.
- Maintains inventory of multimedia equipment and supplies and supports ordering/receiving activities including initiating purchase requisitions as assigned for the purpose of ensuring item availability tracking assets and supporting cost-effective operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of supporting department and district operational needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience in Analog Audiovisual Systems Networked Audiovisual Systems and/or electronics.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant job experience required; seven (7) years preferred.
- Preferred/desired: experience with Extron and/or Q-Sys installation and programming.
- Preferred/desired: CompTIA A and/or Network; low-voltage certification.
- Ability to achieve Extron Control Professional within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to achieve Q-SYS Level 2 Certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
- Ability to achieve CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) Certification within eighteen (18) months of hire.
- Basic math (fractions percentages ratios) and ability to follow complex multi-step written and oral instructions.
- Computers peripherals and productivity tools (email office suite) used in a professional environment.
- Basic audio and video theory (analog and digital interfaces) electronics and mechanical systems and A/V signal flow (audio video control lighting networking).
- Low-voltage wiring standards and terminations for A/V systems (e.g. analog audio digital video RS-232 and other control wiring).
- Data networking principles for LAN/WAN environments including Cat-5/Cat-6 cabling systems and infrastructure.
- Networked audio/video equipment and common video standards.
- Scissor lift/boom operating knowledge within one (1) month of hire (as assigned/required by the district).

- Travel between district sites as needed.
- Follow Board of Trustees policies district procedures attendance expectations and safety requirements.
Works under general direction and within standardized procedures. Provides information and technical guidance to others; may coordinate with other work units and external vendors to accomplish assignments. This position has no direct budget responsibility; however it may initiate purchase requisitions as assigned.
- Work is performed in classrooms offices conference rooms and event venues; occasional work outdoors and in large venues (e.g. gyms stadiums).
- Frequent standing walking and sitting; may require working in tight spaces and around equipment racks and ladders.
- Comfortable working at heights using ladders approximately 6 to 25 and using lifts/booms (as assigned); may work in confined spaces.
- Ability to safely lift carry push and/or pull equipment and materials; frequent bending stooping kneeling crouching reaching and fine finger dexterity.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation).
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts electrical components and other typical shop/field hazards; required to follow district safety procedures and use appropriate safety equipment.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
