Job Summary

Lighthouse Labs Services is seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in Long Island City to oversee daily operations within a New York State Department of Health CLIA/CLEP clinical laboratory specializing in high-complexity infectious disease testing. The laboratory utilizes advanced molecular technologies including NGS and PCR-based processes LDT applications and specialized techniques across clinical microbiology molecular virology mycology bacteriology and parasitology.

The Supervisor will provide day-to-day oversight of laboratory operations workflow quality and personnel while ensuring testing is performed accurately efficiently and in accordance with CLIA CLEP and applicable regulatory requirements. This role will also provide technical guidance to staff support troubleshooting and assay validation oversee competency and training and help ensure the laboratory maintains high standards of patient testing and turnaround time.

Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer Chief Scientific Officer and Clinical Laboratory Director the Supervisor will help support the continued development and operation of the laboratory including implementation and optimization of molecular testing methodologies and processes. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in molecular and infectious disease testing along with the leadership skills needed to guide a growing specialized laboratory team.

What youll do:

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily laboratory operations workflow staffing and patient result reporting.
  • Ensure testing meets established turnaround times quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise train mentor and assist with hiring qualified laboratory staff.
  • Oversee competency assessments staff performance and ongoing training.
  • Ensure adequate on-site coverage based on laboratory workload testing complexity staffing and operational needs.
  • Monitor reagent and supply inventory and communicate needs to laboratory leadership.
  • Collaborate with management and other department leaders to support overall laboratory operations.
  • Participate in staff and management meetings.
  • Recommend improvements to testing procedures equipment utilization and laboratory workflow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.

Technical & Testing Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex molecular testing in accordance with established laboratory procedures.
  • Handle and process clinical specimens including urine vaginal swabs stool blood CSF synovial fluid and respiratory specimens related to infectious diseases.
  • Perform accessioning biobanking nucleic acid extraction and quantification PCR and next-generation sequencing as applicable to the laboratorys testing menu.
  • Perform manual and automated techniques for high-volume specimen processing.
  • Operate maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and LIS systems.
  • Apply knowledge of testing methodologies and the clinical relevance of tests performed within the department.
  • Assist with validation and implementation of new assays and methodologies.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and maintain associated records.
  • Perform quality control and proficiency testing document results and corrective actions and follow established procedures when QC requirements are not met.
  • Recognize abnormal instrument or test performance and withhold patient results until issues are resolved.
  • Communicate critical values according to established procedures and follow laboratory downtime procedures when the LIS is unavailable.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers and effectively demonstrate laboratory procedures.

What you bring:

  • Bachelors degree in the sciences or a related field with 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting OR a Masters degree in the sciences or a related field with 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in New York State.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
  • ASCP certification is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
  • Experience with Qiagen extraction systems Illumina sequencing platforms and Integra liquid-handling robots is highly preferred.

Nice to haves:

  • Supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Training in infectious diseases (bacteriology virology parasitology and mycology) and molecular diagnostics.
  • Prior experience supervising CLIA laboratory high-complexity testing.
  • Experience with Qiagen extraction systems Illumina sequencing platforms and Integra liquid-handling robots is highly preferred and would be a strong plus.

Shift Compensation and benefits:

  • First shift role M-F. Training will be conducted between 9:00 AM5:00 PM ET. Once training is complete the technologist may choose either a 6:00 AM2:00 PM or 7:00 AM3:00 PM shift based on personal preference.
