Summary of the position:

The MIG Welder position requires an individual to perform MIG welding on a wide range of components.

This position is located at the Hitachi Global Air Power manufacturing facility in Michigan City Indiana.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Selecting measuring cutting and joining appropriate metals to specifications.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of welding techniques material characteristics and structural fundamentals.
  • Working with different sized bases and frames structural steel and plate steel weldments.
  • Interpreting specifications and blueprints accurately.
  • Determining correct gas ratios and wire feed speed.
  • Testing the strength of each joint during and after project completion.
  • Driving a forklift operating cranes and other machinery to transport materials.
  • Ability to operate the Spot Weld and PEM machines
  • Ability to operate the Robotic Weld machines

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Education or equivalent.
  • Welding Certificate preferred.
  • Welding trades schooling preferred.

Professional experience:

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and experience necessary to meet the requirements of the departmental assessment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • 1 year of welding experience required; 5-10 years of welding experience preferred.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Understand technical blueprints.
  • Exhibit customer-focused behavior through effective communication with internal customers peers and leadership team.
  • Computer skills required (i.e. spreadsheets data entry email).
  • Ability to use precision measurement device to work within tight tolerances.
  • Ability to work with cranes sharp edges on machined parts electrical components and moving parts by carts.

Key behaviors:

  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device crane or assistance from another associate.
  • Standing and walking minimum of 8 hours.
  • Must be able to bend/stoop squat/crouch kneel and twist.
  • Must understand and comply with Sullair Safety Standards.
  • Participate in EHS quarterly audits if required.
  • Required to wear the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the work area.
  • Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
  • Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
