Job Summary

Pinao is seeking a Mid-Level Epidemiologist to support the Vision Center of Excellence (VCE). The VCE develops and implements research and programmatic efforts to optimize diagnosis prevention mitigation rehabilitation and treatment of injuries and disorders affecting the visual system of Service Members and Veterans. This process involves identification and application of evidence-based best practices collaboration among various stakeholders and use of information management systems to improve vision outcomes for all Service Members and Veterans treated by the DoD and VA. This position serves as a member of the Epidemiology Team at the VCE and provides epidemiologic and analytic support to VCE operations.


DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in epidemiology and research methods to support projects and related program needs.
  • Provide analytic support by performing statistical analysis using R Python or other designated statistical analysis software.
  • Perform descriptive and inferential analyses and use data visualization to present findings at meetings and/or in reports or manuscripts.
  • Conduct data cleaning and data wrangling of data pulled from select DHA information systems such as the MHS Mart (M2) and the Defense and Veterans Eye Injury and Vision Registry (DVEIVR).
  • Assist with review of internal and external data requests that require epidemiologic analysis.
  • Collaborate with VCE clinicians and other stakeholders to determine study objectives hypotheses and methods for their proposed research and apply appropriate statistical metrics such as disease incidence/prevalence risk ratios correlations and time-to-event analysis.
  • Work with other VCE teams as needed to facilitate data collection data management and data quality control ensure a systematic response to data requests.
  • Attend meetings with clinicians and other team members as needed for consultation.
  • Work with team members to troubleshoot programming issues.
  • Ensure data integrity and data security in handling and management of data.


Requirements

Skills / Qualifications:

Proven record of epidemiologic investigations with specific experience in ocular trauma and vision-threatening conditions.

Experience in working with clinical related data and conducting epidemiologic and bio-statistical analysis.

Extensive experience in data analysis and research methods.

Intermediate or advanced analytical capabilities.

Experience in applied epidemiology and statistics including survival analysis generalized linear model causal inference and data visualization.

Strong skills in analyzing complex data from multiple sources and data wrangling using the programming language R.

Effective communications in multidisciplinary collaboration.

Proficiency at preparing clear and concise reports manuscripts and other written materials.


Education:

Masters Degree in statistics epidemiology or a related field; AND three (3) years of experience in performing epidemiological analyses; OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience.


Security Clearance:

DoD Secret Security Clearance is required.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs): Pinao employees are eligible to enroll in one or both of the following and contribute to tax-free dollars:

Health Care FSA: Can be used to cover eligible health care-related expenses. Employees can contribute up to $3400 per benefits plan year.

Dependent Day Care FSA: Can be used to cover eligible expenses related to the care of a child (under age 13) or certain eligible dependents. Employees can contribute up to $7500 per calendar year.

Life Insurance: The Life Insurance Policy is administered by Lincoln Financial CA. Pinao pays for full coverage for each eligible employee at one (1) times the rate of their annual salary rounded to the next higher $1000; subject to a minimum of $10000 and a maximum of $200000.

Short-Term Disability: Short-Term Disability Insurance is provided by Lincoln Financial CA. Pinao pays 60% of the premium for each eligible employee up to $2000.

Long-Term Disability Insurance: Disability Insurance is provided by Lincoln Financial CA. Pinao pays 60% of the premium for each eligible employee up to $9000.

401K: Pinao provides a 401K plan through Betterment. Pinao pays for all administration fees and provides matching funds up to 4% of a participating employees gross income.

Temporary duty: (Two Weeks 80 hours) Military Leave: In addition to the rights and benefits provided to Employees taking Extended Military eligible Employees who must be absent from their job for a period of not more than ten working days each year in order to participate in temporary military duty are entitled to as many as ten days paid military leave. All benefits will continue during a Employees temporary military leave.

All Other (Extended) Military Leave: Employees ordered to active duty and directed to participate in extended military duties in the U.S. Armed Forces that exceed ten working days will be placed on an unpaid military leave of absence status for a period of as long as five years and will be entitled to the rights and benefits afford to them by law and corporate policy.

Remote Location Allowances: Pinao policy allows for Hybrid/Work from Home within the following constructs:

All Work from Home activities and schedules must be approved in writing prior to the work from home benefit starting.

Personal Time Off (PTO): Pinao provides PTO to cover activities such as vacation and sick leave for eligible employees at a rate of 5 hours per pay period. PTO starts accumulating from day one of employment with Pinao.

Holidays: Pinao follows the government holiday schedule. Employees are eligible for eleven holidays during the year. Holidays may vary based on contractual requirements.
