Job Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval award amount (up to $200000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
This position serves as the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Program Coordinator for the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Teams. BHIP is a multidisciplinary outpatient program within the MH Service that provides state-of-the-art mental health services for veterans based on the psychiatric rehabilitation recovery model. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing a wide range of diagnostic and psychotherapeutic services for veterans with mental illnesses including diagnostic interviews individual psychotherapy group psychotherapy psychiatric consultation psychiatric medication evaluation and management and psychological testing.
- Collaborating and advocacy for veterans with mental illness and their family members.
- Education and training of staff in conjunction with other VA professionals to promote the transition from maintenance models of treatment to the contemporary recovery model.
- Championing Evidence Based Therapies and measurement-based approach to care. The MFT Program Coordinator is expected to provide assigned psychotherapy services within the Mental Health Service for MH patients; and to be responsible for the clinical and administrative supervision of all BHIP LIPs (Psychiatrists APRNs Psychologists Social Workers LPMHCs) at one of the major sites of care (Lake Nona Lake Baldwin Viera Daytona Beach Westside Pavilion or the combined Community Based Outpatient Clinics).
- The incumbent is expected to adhere to service standards regarding matters of timeliness accuracy and compliance with procedures and quantity of work produced.
- The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining policies procedures and processes to implement the deployment of psychologists and counselors in the MHC.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 08:00am - 04:30pm

Basic Requirements

- English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
- Education-Candidates must meet one of the following:
- Hold a masters degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by COAMFTE
- Hold a masters degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution OR
- Hold a masters degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor Social Work Psychiatric Nursing Psychology and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession.
- Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to MFT positions in the GS-0182 series in VHA must hold a full current and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State.
Grade Determinations: In addition to meeting the basic requirements stated above the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates.
GS-12 Marriage and Family Therapist GS-12 (Program Coordinator)
- Experience Education and Licensure: In addition to the basic requirements completion of one year of progressively responsible assignments and experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level which demonstrates knowledge skills and abilities that are directly related to the specific assignment. MFT program coordinators of family programs must be trained in family systems therapy/theory. If the assignment is responsible for providing systemic clinical supervision for licensure the individual must have an AAMFT Approved Supervisor credential.
- Ability to organize work set priorities meet multiple deadlines delegate tasks and facilitate team building.
- Ability to manage and direct the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives.
- Ability to devise innovative ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs to develop staffing and budget requirements and to translate management goals and objectives into well- coordinated and controlled work operations and ensure compliance with pertinent VHA policies.
- Ability to establish and monitor performance priorities according to standards and program evaluation criteria.
- Knowledge of family systems theory/therapy in coordination of family programs.
