Job Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIAN Position Description Number D1817000 and is part of the 174TH ATKW National Guard.
This vacancy does not meet the criteria for appointment of annuitants.
As a METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIAN (GS) you will provide meteorological services and weather observations and forecasts in support of world-wide Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to ensure mission effectiveness resource protection and flight safety. Performs duties necessary to accomplish Weather Flight Mission Execution Forecasts (MEF) including the collecting analyzing and forecasting of atmospheric and space environmental information and forecasts and the tailoring and communication of weather data that impacts all parts of the mission to include takeoff route target and landing.

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing states National Guard required prior to the effective date of placement.

- May be required to successfully complete a two year trial period.

- For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles candidates must have a valid state drivers license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
Military Grades: ENLISTED
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Must have experience education or training performing meteorological watch; and communicating effectively orally and in writing. Experience using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have one year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience education or training in applying principles and procedures of various meteorological models and forecasting techniques. Experience collecting analyzing interpreting and evaluating numerous meteorological and oceanographic charts planning organizing and coordinating work. Experience measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation. Experience observing and recording atmospheric characteristics i.e. temperature air movement visibility pressure air density cloud types. Experience decoding plotting and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere i.e. charts diagrams cross sections. Experience collecting analyzing interpreting adjusting and verifying atmospheric and other meteorological data to confirm and improve accuracy and efficacy.
IF ONLY USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY:
Two full years of graduate education or a masters degree meets the requirements for GS-9.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond a four year degree in a related field.
Graduate Education: Education at the graduate level (above Bachelors Degree) in an accredited college or university.
You must provide Official Transcripts as documentation to support your educational claims. To receive credit for Education you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.

Superior Qualifications and Special Needs Pay-setting Authority may be considered for this position. TAG is final approval authority for incentive programs (applicable to newly appointed federal employees or those with a 90 day break in service).
