Responsibilities:
- Prepare and performs a variety of moderate and high complexity laboratory tests in one or more sections of the laboratory to obtain laboratory results and data used for diagnosis treatment and prevention of disease.
- Ensure that all testing is performed accurately and resulted as ordered within turn-around-time expectations. Completes all required documentation and follows up on all unusual and critical results as required by policy and procedure.
- Collaborate with clinical staff supervisors and healthcare professionals as needed
- Obtains/receives and prepares specimens for analysis. Understands specimen factors that can affect the accuracy of laboratory testing and insures the integrity of the specimen through the testing process.
- Understands the theory behind laboratory methods and operates various pieces of laboratory instrumentation used to obtain test results. Perform and document instrument maintenance calibrations quality control (QC) and test procedures:Recognize and troubleshoot QC failures instrument issues and result discrepancies and refers questionable or unusual cases to the technical supervisor lab supervisor director or specimen integrity and reject specimens not meeting criteria
- Ensures compliance with all policies/procedures (hospital safety regulatory and accrediting agency requirements).
- Maintains continuing education and competency requirements as defined by laboratory policy and certification agency requirements.
- Proficient in hospital laboratory and office computer systems.
- As needed:Assist train and orient new staff and students in their respective lab temporary leadership role in absence of in regulatory inspection supply and reagent levels and practices cost containment.

- Bachelors in clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited : Bachelors degree in Biology or ChemistryNote: Alternative Bachelors degrees must be accompanied by transcripts for evaluation to meet equivalent education and training as defined in 42CFR 493.1489(b)(3)(ii) At least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that at a minimum includes either;24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses;OR24 semester hours of science courses that include:6 semester hours of chemistry;6 semester hours of biology; and12 semester hours of chemistry biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination;ORSuccessful completion of at least a 50 week official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course AND Have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician)Note: A qualifying degree in chemical or biological science from an accredited institution must be related to the health and study of human beings. Degrees which do not clearly meet this qualification must be assessed for the appropriate science courses as described in the equivalent education and training completion of at least a 50 week official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training courseForeign education/training must be accompanied by a primary source verification report to verify equivalency/credentials from a nationally recognized agency such as the National Association Credential Evaluation Services Inc. (NACES) and the Association of International Credential Evaluators Inc. (AICE) Required
- Masters in medical technology clinical laboratory chemical physical or biological science Preferred
- Doctorate in clinical laboratory science chemical physical or biological science Preferred
- Alternative Bachelors degree in Biology or Chemistry with documented laboratory training that includes:Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEPOR3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing Required
- 6 months Clinical laboratory experience in both high and moderate complexity testing as Medical Technologist Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist. Note: The training or experience must be obtained in a facility that meets the definition of a laboratory and be applicable to the type and complexity of testing performed. The training or experience must relate to testing of human specimens for the purpose of providing information that is used in diagnosing treating and monitoring an individuals condition. Experience in a setting that does not meet the definition of a laboratory such as the testing of non-human specimens (e.g. environmental animal testing) and research testing where patient-specific results are not reported may not be used to meet the addition to CV all training and experience must be verified by a third party. Acceptable documentation includes: Letter on official letterhead from previous employerRecords of past competency assessments Detailed job descriptions verified by former supervisor or human resources personnel Preferred
