Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: At least one year of experience providing direct services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or related experience.

Certifications/Licenses: AMAP certification required; Valid NYS Drivers License required; CPR First Aid and SCIPâR certification or ability to become certified within 6 months.

Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Location Requirement: Onsite/residential setting.

Compensation

Hourly: $19.8077

About the Role

The Medical Specialist provides direct support and essential medical coordination for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They manage medical appointments medication administration documentation and follow-up while also performing all responsibilities of a Direct Support Professional in a residential setting.

Primary Responsibilities

- Arrange and accompany individuals to medical appointments.

- Document visit outcomes update medical logs distribute summaries to clinical staff and track followâup needs.

- Ensure medications are ordered received recorded and administered accurately following policy.

- Check medication supplies and ensure fiveâday supply minimum.

- Maintain and file medical records according to agency policy.

- Perform monthly weight checks and record results.

- Receive medications from suppliers verify accuracy and document new medications.

- Perform all duties of a Direct Support Professional including personal care hygiene grooming and health monitoring.

- Assist individuals at mealtime including feeding meal preparation and nutritional guidance.

- Maintain a clean and safe living environment through housekeeping safety checks and fire drills.

- Support individuals in communication skills social development physical activities and community integration.

- Teach money management interpersonal skills and independent living skills.

- Support community outings transportation and leisure activities.

- Participate in program planning individualized service planning and behavioral documentation.

- Communicate effectively with supervisors clinical staff families and individuals served.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
