Job Summary:

The Medical Education Scholar is a selected osteopathic medical student who completes an additional academic year dedicated to developing advanced skills in medical education scholarly activity and academic leadership. Scholars engage in structured instructional development participate in educational projects and when applicable take part in supervised clinical activities within the Departments of Biomedical Sciences or Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM). All teaching and clinical responsibilities occur under direct faculty supervision.

Scholars do not serve as instructors of record and do not independently teach courses. Participation in the program is voluntary and this role requires full compliance with program expectations and institutional policies.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with lab instruction during scheduled laboratory sessions.

  2. Assist with practical examinations (preparation delivery grading) and development of educational materials (pro-sections video training modules clinical case scenarios etc.).

  3. Provide at least one guided lecture and lab session per semester and assist in facilitation of team-based and case-based learning events.

  4. Attend all scheduled course learning events and review sessions.

  5. Provide tutoring for student-doctors at least 6 hours each week.

  6. Assist with Clinical Medicine Standardized Patients and Simulation evaluations as directed.

  7. Attend and participate in scholar journal club and didactic curricula.

  8. Engage in supervised clinical activities consistent with institutional policies if participating in the Osteopathic Principles and Practice track.

  9. Encouraged to conduct approved research/publication projects over the course of the academic year.

  10. Attend one required professional meeting as designated by the Scholar Supervisor.

  11. Performs related accountabilities as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be an actively enrolled student at Baptist University in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at the time of application and throughout the appointment period.
  • Must have earned a minimum score of 80% or higher in all Anatomy and Osteopathic Principles & Practice (OPP) courses.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be in good academic standing with no prior academic probation or suspension on record.
  • Must have successfully passed COMLEX Level 1 within 30 days of starting the position.
