Job Summary
Position SummaryThe Mechanics Assistant supports maintenance staff and is trained to perform the maintenance and renewal of wastewater facilities and associated systems including but not limited to liquids treatment solids handling chemical systems odor control and lift stations. This position performs a variety of work assignments to ensure acceptable asset condition wastewater quality and health and safety standards are met or related work as required to ensure efficient and effective facility ResponsibilitiesWorks collaboratively with Mechanics and Plant Operators to conduct treatment maintenance and renewal; assuringoptimalasset efficiency and regulatory the evaluation of equipment performance by observation andutilizinginstrumentation to ensure compliant and efficient operations to facility the routine maintenance and repair to existing machinery and equipment. Work may be performed on such process equipment as pumpsblowersand valves. Performs emergency repairs outside routine working schedule as rough carpentry painting plumbingweldingandadditionalmechanical duties personnelof needed repairs and in planning performing and implementing maintenance procedures for treatment assets including assisting with inventory control and job plans to ensure safe and consistent work facility for any breaches of security and alertsappropriate agenciesand/or supervisors asappropriate forthe facility grounds and general housekeeping as well as the appearance of the in an environmentof Integrity Trust Respect Unity Safety and guidelines as required by State statutes andas prescribed bythe NTMWD. This includes identifying and mitigating safety and receives equipment and standard andcomplies withapplicable NTMWD policies and thorough logs and records in both written and electronic form resolvesservice requests related to plant operations and maintenance activitiesutilizingthe CMMS (Maximo) to coordinate with personnel and support other duties as RequirementsEducation & Experience:High school diploma or GED. An associate degree or trade certification is mechanical electrical technology and operations inwastewater operations or maintenance is strongly tocomprehendand carryout out written and oral is to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewateror WaterTreatment or Collectionor DistributionSystemOperators a valid Texas Drivers Skills & Abilities:Develop andmaintainknowledge ofwastewater treatment processes including the ability to troubleshootwastewater treatment equipment and obtainknowledge inwastewater treatment chemical safetyand response procedures including a certificate in hazardous materials for chemical safety communicate effectively both written and verbally with supervisors peers to convey basic computer skills and electrical and mechanical to comprehend and carryout out written and oral and Physical Working ConditionsEnvironmental and Physical Working ConditionsDriving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current valid and vehicle - appropriate driver s license of their resident duties and responsibilities aregenerally performedin a wastewater treatment environment. The position involvessitting (up to 6 hours per day) frequent standing frequent walking light to heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs.) light carrying frequent bending and reaching keyboarding and telephone an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with chemicals tools machinery moving mechanical parts duties and responsibilities are performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate to heavy exposure to sun dirt dust pollen odors wetness humidity biological hazards rain temperature and noise extremes hazardous materials and chemicals machinery moving mechanical parts vibrations electric currents traffic hazards and water hazards are common. Performs and reviews work at locations that involve hazardous environments requiring the physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) thatmeet or exceed guidelines such asestablishedby OSHA which may result inphysical discomfort due to temperature dust odorschemicalsand noise.
