Position Summary
The Site Manager (Mechanical) is responsible for the overall leadership execution and performance of mechanical maintenance and construction operations at an assigned customer site. This position provides direct oversight for mechanical work activities including fixed equipment piping structural steel rotating equipment and turnaround execution while ensuring safe cost-effective and high-quality project delivery.
The Site Manager serves as the primary customer interface and is accountable for workforce planning contract administration financial performance safety leadership employee development and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical expertise and a proven ability to lead maintenance and construction teams in industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Operations
- Lead all site mechanical maintenance and construction activities in accordance with customer requirements and Austin Industrial standards.
- Develop and execute site strategies to achieve operational excellence customer satisfaction and business growth.
- Review and manage work scopes schedules budgets and resource requirements.
- Participate in customer planning meetings schedule reviews and turnaround planning sessions.
- Coordinate craft labor supervision subcontractors equipment and materials to support scheduled work.
- Develop workforce plans to support routine maintenance outages capital projects and turnaround activities.
- Ensure effective utilization of company equipment tools and resources.
- Maintain site logistics plans that support safe and efficient work execution.
Cost & Financial Management
- Manage site financial performance including labor productivity gross profit forecasting and cost controls.
- Conduct monthly financial reviews and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Review job cost reports and monitor productivity trends.
- Ensure timely billing cost tracking reporting and receivables management.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators and site performance scorecards.
- Analyze labor utilization equipment costs and work execution metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
Scheduling
- Lead workforce planning and scheduling activities for mechanical work execution.
- Review weekly and long-range schedules to ensure resource alignment.
- Coordinate manpower requirements to support maintenance construction and turnaround activities.
- Participate in schedule development and look-ahead planning sessions with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure supervisors have adequate planning information and resources to execute scheduled work safely and efficiently.
Quality
- Ensure all mechanical work complies with customer specifications industry standards and Austin quality requirements.
- Verify inspections are performed and documented appropriately.
- Ensure quality deficiencies are identified corrected and documented.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workmanship and execution quality.
- Monitor compliance with welding bolting equipment installation piping and other mechanical quality requirements.
Customer & Team Relationships
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with customer representatives and stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary site contact for operational performance and issue resolution.
- Promote teamwork accountability professionalism and employee engagement.
- Support employee development coaching mentoring and succession planning initiatives.
- Coordinate effectively with subcontractors suppliers and internal support groups.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies procedures and employment practices.
Safety Leadership
- Lead the sites safety culture and promote Austins commitment to Incident and Injury Free performance.
- Ensure compliance with all company customer and regulatory safety requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Conduct field safety observations and verify correction of hazardous conditions.
- Ensure proper planning and execution of high-risk work activities.
- Support development and implementation of project-specific safety plans.
- Promote environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
Technical Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for mechanical maintenance and construction activities.
- Support planning and execution of work involving:
- Fixed equipment
- Rotating equipment
- Piping systems
- Structural steel
- Heat exchangers
- Pressure vessels
- Towers and reactors
- Pumps and compressors
- Turnarounds and outages
- Review work packages drawings specifications and construction documents.
- Support estimating planning and work execution strategy development.
- Identify and mitigate execution risks that could impact safety quality schedule or cost performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Physical Demands
- Frequent walking through active industrial construction and maintenance sites.
- Ability to climb stairs ladders and access elevated structures.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- May require extended periods of standing walking and site inspections.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management Industrial Technology or related technical field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and extensive industrial experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of industrial construction maintenance or turnaround experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing mechanical operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing maintenance contracts capital projects or turnaround execution.
- Strong background in mechanical crafts including piping fixed equipment structural steel rotating equipment and maintenance operations.
- Experience working within refining petrochemical power manufacturing or industrial process facilities preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of mechanical maintenance and construction best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings P&IDs specifications and work packages.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Outlook Word PowerPoint).
- Experience with budgeting forecasting scheduling and productivity tracking.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations quality systems and industry standards.
- Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities.
