Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Supervisor and/or Lead Maintenance Technicianthe Wastewater Mechanicperforms plans and organizes the maintenance of wastewater facilitiesand associated systemsincluding but not limited to liquids treatment solids handling chemical systems odor controlandlift Wastewater Mechanic performsa variety of work assignments to ensure acceptable asset conditionandwater quality and health and safety standards are met or Responsibilities Performs predictive preventive corrective and emergency maintenance for facility assets. Work may also include rough carpentry painting plumbing welding duties as mentors staff under the direction of supervisory staff. Leads by example. Acts as a positive role model an environment of Integrity Trust Respect Unity Safety and and manages service requests and work orders for needed equipment condition and performance by observation and using inspection and records in both written and electronic form with accuracy and job plans and recommends revisions to job plans to ensure safe and consistent work safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes andas prescribed facility for any breaches of security and alertappropriate lawenforcement agencies and/or supervisors asappropriate forthe systems and assets during emergencies and scheduled shutdowns. Troubleshoots diagnoses and reports problems. Responds to emergencies. Schedules and coordinates responses repairs clean-up and remediation as facility and work area shipments monitors unloading processes checks shipment documents for accuracy and ensures documents aresubmittedtoappropriate withapplicable policies and responsibilities of direct supervisor(s) and subordinates duties as RequirementsEducation & Experience:Possess a high school diploma or GED. An associate degree or trade certification is (2) years of experience in industrial maintenance or a suitable combination of directly relevant education and experience asdeterminedby is to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewateror WaterTreatmentor Collectionor DistributionSystemOperators valid Texas Drivers Skills & Abilities:Possessgeneralknowledge of maintenance and reliability practices and principles and awareness of wastewater assets and their the ability to troubleshoot equipment typically used in wastewater effectively both written and verbally with supervisors peers computer skills and become proficient at using a computerized maintenance management system to perform major and Physical Working ConditionsDriving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current valid and vehicle - appropriate driver s license of their resident duties and responsibilities aregenerally performedin a wastewater treatment environment. The position involves sitting (up to 6 hours per day) frequent standing frequent walkinglight to heavy lifting (up to 100lbs.) light carrying frequent bending and reaching keyboarding and telephone operation. It often requires an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with chemicals tools machinery moving mechanical parts duties and responsibilities are performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate to heavy exposure to sun dirt dust pollen odors wetness humidity biological hazards rain temperature and noise extremes hazardous materials and chemicals machinery moving mechanical parts vibrations electric currents traffic hazards and water hazards are common. Performs and reviews work at locations that involve hazardous environments requiring the physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) thatmeet or exceed guidelines such asestablishedby OSHA which may result insome physical discomfort due to temperature dust odorschemicalsand noise.
