JOB GOAL: Assist in maintaining and providing a safe and reliable bus fleet which in addition to emergency repairs will include regular and periodic inspection and maintenance procedures to reduce frequency of repairs and lower cost of operation and maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Proven mechanical skills
Appropriate State of Ohio certification/license. Prefer A.S.E. Ohio School bus mechanic license.
State of Ohio Class B school bus and passenger endorsement commercial drivers license with air brake and transporting passengers
Required to lift carry push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate
Have basic computer knowledge
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains respect at all times for confidential information.
2. Determine that safe and satisfactory equipment is maintained at all times.
3. Maintaining a program of preventative maintenance.
4. Services and inspects buses and other board-owned motor vehicles on a regularly
scheduled program making repairs as needed.
5. Has access to and knows how to use the Owners and Drivers Manual and the Service
Manual provided by the vehicle manufacturer.
6. Maintains summer bus maintenance program and will have buses ready
for the annual inspection by the Ohio Highway Patrol.
7. Maintains an inventory of supplies and materials.
8. Shall see that the bus garage is clean orderly and free of hazardous conditions.
9. Promotes good public relations with those whom he/she works through personal
appearance attitude and conversation.
Take in-service and training courses where required possible and practical.
11. Keep records and make reports as required.
a. All buses: tune-ups tires brakes oil changes clutches safety equipment etc.
b. Garage equipment.
12. Responsible for going out on all breakdowns when on duty.
13. Work on tractors lawn mowers and other school vehicles with school bus repair having first priority.
14. Attend meetings as required.
15. Conducts other duties related to the mechanics duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or the superintendent.
16. School will furnish tools.
17. Drive bus routes and trips on a substitute basis when needed.

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with the provisions of the Boards policy.
