The Mechanic is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints sketches drawings technical manuals and work process instructions in order to repair or replace industrial machinery. This position reports directly to the Lead man or Foreman as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Adjust and maintain industrial machinery using control and regulating devices
Adjust maintain and repair or replace subassemblies such as transmissions and crawler heads using hand tools jacks and cranes
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
Assemble gear systems and align frames and gears
Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent
Clean lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices
Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges
Fabricate needed parts or items from sheet metal.
Fit bearings to adjust repair or overhaul mobile mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
Operate and inspect machines or heavy marine equipment to diagnose defects
Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency
Repair and replace damaged or worn parts
Repair rewire and troubleshoot electrical systems
Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment and keep equipment service records. Research order and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs
Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers specifications.
Weld or solder broken parts and structural members using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
Adhere to technical documentation report when tolerances conditions found do not meet required dimensions and recommend solutions.
Must have working knowledge of procedures strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow directions
Must be able to read mechanic precise measuring equipment.
Read and interpret basic drawings and technical manuals
Inspection of work identification of potential problems initiation of corrective actions.
Increase awareness of Quality procedures within department
Perform as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the supervisor.
General Knowledge of USN Standard Items
Knowledge of valves repair and re-build
Knowledge of repair and overhaul of pumps
Adjust and maintain industrial machinery and possess knowledge of machinery alignment
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or Certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience in mechanic role preferred.
Ability to add subtract multiply divide and measure using the metric system
2 years experience working in a Shipyard/and or industrial environment
Must be TWIX card and DBIDS credential eligible (as required)
Additional Requirements:
Must pass a drug screen
Must have a current U.S Drivers License
Working Conditions:
Open-air conditions such as noisy hot cold as well as in an office controlled environment
May have to visit projects aboard ships rigs both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. Must wear hearing eye head protection and proper PPE when required
Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
Aboard ships both on and offshore as well as confined spaces.
Must wear hearing eye head protection and proper PPE.
Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. (Board ships climb ladders and work in obscure and dense areas).
Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles bending over crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding ladders and internal barge and boat structural members
