Responsibilities

Under the direction of the shop supervisor or the superintendent performs a variety of tasks incidental to the opertions and duties of the Office of the County Engineer as they relate to the care and maintenance of equipment.

Typical Duties

The duties listed below are illustrative of the types of task performed within this classification and are not intended to be all-inclusive nor are they intended to exclude tasks of a similar nature which are not specifically mentioned.

1. Performs routine maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment including; obtaining parts fueling washing adding or changing oil grease or fluids as necessary repairing tires batteries air filters tire chains wiper blades snow plows salt spreaders etc. Performs repair and maintenance on hydraulic cooling and electrical systems power trains and all other mechanical functions of the equipment.

2. May infrequently assist in the performance of a variety of highway maintenance tasks including repair of road surfaces rights-of-way drainage structures and traffic control devices and the control of ice and snow etc.

3. May assist in the performance of occasional building and grounds maintenance duties including sweeping trash removal moping painting and handling material.
