Job Description:

Provide quality medical services to a diverse student population as part of an outpatient clinic and participate in health education and community outreach activities related to the University Student Health Services. Serve as a consultant and supervisor to Student Health Services clinical staff. Serve as assistant medical director designee as assigned and in the Medical Directors absence. Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and electronic N.Y.S. prescription prescribing procedures is essential.

The Physician works 5 days per week 12 months per year between the hours of 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday during the semester and 8:00AM - 4:00PM during the summer and breaks. The Physician reports directly to the Medical Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage medical and gynecological concerns which includes:
    • Assessment and diagnosis providing patient health education ordering laboratory tests x-rays and prescribing medications
    • Keep timely and meticulous health records
    • Provide physicals for sports study abroad and academic-related activities
    • Evaluate MMR/TB status regarding administrative health requirement
    • Refer to specialty or emergency care as appropriate
    • Work with University Counseling and Psychological Services related to referring and receiving referrals
    • Cooperate with Albany County Department of Health
    • Cooperate inter-departmentally with UAlbany
    • Participate in orientation and other outreach for students
  • Assist medical director; serve as designee in their absence
  • Lead and manage direct reports/team providing guidance support and performance feedback to assure goals programs activities and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the Universitys employees for maximum performance and dedication fostering a positive and productive work environment. Complete performance management feedback and goals timely and per requirements offering constructive feedback and developing improvement plans.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Medical Director
  • Available to provide clinical supervision for the following positions: PA NP
  • May supervise employees as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)

Job Requirements:

  • Clinical responsibilities among others include:
    • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and electronic N.Y.S. prescription prescribing procedures.
    • Demonstrated skill in providing effective care to diverse range of personal and cultural backgrounds.
    • Ability to conduct efficient and effective triage and provide recommendations for medical care as well as referrals for other related services.
    • Leadership and organizational skills including the ability to provide leadership oversight and direction to assure Student Health Center goals activities and practices are consistent with and contribute to the department and Universitys goals and strategies.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
    • Commitment to cultural humility and ongoing development of multicultural competency in the context of providing inclusive and equitable services.
    • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a Medical School accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Graduate of an Accredited Residency.
  • Current Board Certification in Family Medicine OR Internal Medicine OR Medicine and Pediatrics.
  • NYS Medical License current.
  • DEA current.
  • Experience providing primary medical and gynecologic care including diagnosis and evidence-based evaluation and treatment.
  • Experience providing medical care to a diverse adolescent/young adult population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years experience working in Urgent Care settings.
  • 1-2 years experience working in College Health.
  • 1-2 years experience working with culturally diverse adolescent young adult population.

Working Environment:

  • Typical medical office environment.
  • Ability to be a professional resource for office staff from advance practice providers (NP/PA) to front desk to nursing to lab staff.
  • Ability to provide both in person and telehealth medical care.
  • Ability to work with technology including EMR and emails.
  • Ability to precept Medical Students and Medical Residents.
