The emphasis for the MathSpecialist will be on supporting teachers and students in the mathematics area. The person will work closely with the K-5 Math curriculum coordinatorsunder the Building Principal to accomplish the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide K5 curriculum and instructional leadership as well as instructional coaching to teachers in the area of mathematics
Attend Grade Level and Problem Solving Meetings if the area of concern is mathematics
Attend District Data Meetings
Analyze student data and create/update student intervention plans
Articulate student intervention plans for improving student achievement and math instruction
Oversees the implementation of student intervention plans progress monitoring and fidelity of interventions
Provide support through intervention and/or instruction to students (during intervention block and/or math block)
Facilitate interventionist meetings and provide embedded professional development
Work with MathCurriculum Coordinators to relay information new ideas and/or changes to tutors and/or teachers.
Plan and assist in the transition of teachers coming into Burlington and any teachers changing grade levels
Collaborate with teachers to design lessons that focus on small group instruction and differentiation to the Core program.
Collaborate with the building principal to create schedules for math support.
Collaborate with Principals Math Curriculum Coordinators and teachers to plan family math nights and regular communication about mathematics
Serves on Math Curriculum Committee
Meet regularly with K-5 Math Curriculum Coordinators and others to collaborate on interdisciplinary curriculum connection and to implement programs that meet the goals and priorities of the district
Perform any other related duties as requested by the K-5 Math Coach and the Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Elementary certification: Math Specialist preferred
At least 5 years of lead classroom experience
Demonstrated content area expertise
Knowledge of assessment practices including examples of use of assessment to inform instruction and program evaluation
Background and confidence using technology to support instructional strategies in content area and infusion of emerging tools into curriculum development
Evidence of curriculum development experience
Ability to collaborate with teachers in a variety of educational roles (interventionists special educators etc.)
