Job Description:
The Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Materials Laboratory Engineer- Senior Associate to join our Huntsville Alabama facility. This position will work in the Advanced Manufacturing Facilitys (AMF) Materials and Process Engineering (M&PE) Laboratory in Huntsville Al.
The primary responsibility will be to perform and support testing for material characterization failure investigations material recertification in-process testing and other support of the M&PE team. This position will report to the Materials and Processes Engineering AMF Laboratory Manager in Huntsville AL.
Essential Functions:
- Complete assigned projects safely efficiently and within required deadlines.
- Develop document and implement new testing methods and procedures.
- Support Engineering Technicians in the execution of testing plans.
- Fabricate non-metallic material test layups.
- Conduct testing in accordance with ASTM MIL ISO standard work documents and non-standard work requests.
- Evaluate non-metallic materials using a variety of measurement instruments and laboratory equipment including balances universal testing machines ovens hot plates hydraulic presses autoclaves and rheometers.
- Generate laboratory reports in accordance with material specification requirements.
- Contribute to laboratory operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain laboratory readiness organization and cleanliness in accordance with 5S1 principles.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and minimum 2 years of prior Material Process Engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 0-2 years of prior Material Process Engineering lieu of a degree minimum of 6 years of prior Material Process Engineering experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Material Science Mechanical Chemical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of non-metallic materials properties is desired.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical testing of non-metallic materials is desired.
- Characterizing composites elastomers and adhesives is a plus.
- Experience with any of the following test equipment is a plus:
- Instron Universal Testing Frame
- Moving Die Rheometer and Mooney Viscometer
- Hydraulic Press
- Autoclave-HW1
