Job Summary

Summary

This Materials Handler Leader position is in Environmental Management Services at the Manchester VA Medical Center located at the Manchester campus. This position is full-time at 40 per week.


Duties

The Material Handler serves as the key focal point for the Environmental Management service department for the moving coordination receiving and fulfilling requests for the furniture and equipment to various patient care areas throughout the system service area including Outpatient Clinics throughout the States of New Hampshire and VISN 1.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and coordinating with Environmental Management Service supervisors to establish daily tasks for VAMC and CBOC furnishings based on programs changes additional programs or relocations conducted in support of the VAs Mission.
  • Relaying projects assignments to other material handlers providing them with appropriate equipment and supplies to accomplish tasks.
  • Performing and leading material handlers through daily tasks (e.g. track and monitor furniture needs adjust and changes in layouts monitor inventory) ensuring that the quality and quantity of work meets established standards.
  • Ensuring the cargo is protected from weather and that it is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss during transit.
  • Conducting inventory of the stock of furniture at the warehouse identifying component shortages for replenishment orders confirming receipt of orders identifying discrepancies including improper items received shortage of items delivered wrong products damage to shipment etc.
  • Assisting in identifying and forecasting the need for various medical center and CBOC furnishings based on program changes additional programs or relocations conducted in support of the VAs mission.
  • Assists in tracking and monitoring furniture needs which supports the working environment of the employees.
  • Ensuring the facilities utilized for patient care throughout the Manchester VA system are equipped to serve the Veterans.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. weekends as needed.

    Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge skills and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

    SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:



    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

    Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

    Physical Requirements:
    • Required to drive a truck for several hours to reach the remote location of service.
    • Required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time and to bend climb and stoop and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.
    • Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds with heavier items being moved with handling equipment or the assistance of other workers.
    • Moves supplies and materials with pallet jacks forklifts and through physical labor.
    • During travel considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs.
    • Considerable dexterity hand foot and eye coordination and concentration.
    Working Conditions:
    • Position will operate motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
    • Works both indoors and outdoors including areas that may be hot damp cold drafty and / or poorly lighted.
    • Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts scrapes bruises abrasions falls and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas.
    • Appropriate protective gear will be supplied and shall always be utilized to minimize such risks.
    • Must be able to sit for long periods of time while driving and is exposed to road hazard conditions daily.
    • will apply all established safety practices.

    Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
