Job Summary

The Marine Systems and Piping Engineer bridges the gap between marine engineering and hands-on production. They design route and optimize onboard piping systems while supporting the fabrication installation and commissioning of fluid systems across new-build and repair projects.

Key Responsibilities
Marine Systems & Piping Design

Perform basic and detailed design for assigned systems or areas of the vessel including calculations diagrams drawings design change notices and equipment selection.
Manage Vendor scopes for multiple OEMs and service providers to ensure proper interface and completeness of the design as assigned.
Participate in based and detailed design activities within the Design Engineering team including review of design documents from other shipyard engineers vendors and external design partners.
Prepare technical specifications collect vendor information and maintain makers list for assigned systems.
Control the change management in the design workflow to ensure any change in vendor information is identified and incorporated into the design.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all piping designs material selections and pressure calculations adhere to maritime rules and classification standards (e.g. ABS Lloyds Register or USCG) and contractual requirements.
Interface with Project management owner and class to resolve technical issues.

Production Support

Translate complex engineering drawings into actionable piping build strategies and isometric spools for production crews.
Generate review and access Bill of materials and provide technical support for material tracking.
Verification for acceptance of the equipment that is delivered to the yard as per original vendor cutsheets.
Act as the primary technical point of contact between the design office and the shipyard floor troubleshooting clashes and reviewing as-built documentation.

Collaboration & Communication

Collaboration and communication are essential aspects of this role that include the following responsibilities:
Coordinating with project teams departments and external parties to facilitate document exchange
Providing support and training to users on document management systems
Maintaining effective communication channels to address document-related queries or issues

Required Skills and Qualification

  • Educational Background: A degree or diploma in Marine Engineering Mechanical Engineering Naval Architecture or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Typically 3-7 years of specific experience in ship design construction or similar fields.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD ShipConstructor (or equivalent 3D modeling software) Navisworks.
  • Core Skills: Deep understanding of the maritime fluid dynamics material selection equipment selection and pipe support design.
  • Combination of office shipyard and onboard vessel environments.
  • Must be capable of ship checks vessel inspections and climbing ladders.
  • The employee must have correctable vision to 20/40 however contact lenses are not permitted in certain production area positions.
  • The employee must pass the Ishihara test for color blindness and can read and understand safety symbols and colors (i.e. red yellow green etc.).
  • The employee must be able to stand sit walk squat kneel stoop or climb stairs or a ladder.
  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to respirator hardhat face shield safety goggles safety shoes (steel toe) safety harness gloves or other protective clothing as determined by a Senesco Marine Job Hazard Analysis.
  • The employee must report all accidents or injuries to their supervisor and the Environmental Safety and Health Department.
  • The employee must report to their supervisor any and all damage to equipment or broken and misused tools.
  • The employee may be working in several different areas and environments; this includes work inside and outside of buildings or structures.
  • The employee needs to work at a pace consistent with meeting company deadlines.
