Manufacturing Reliability Engineer Role Overview
The Manufacturing Reliability Engineer serves as the reliability subject matter expert for manufacturing operations responsible for improving asset performance eliminating chronic losses and building sustainable reliability systems across PBV facilities. Operating in a high-speed automated beverage manufacturing environment this position functions as both a strategic architect and tactical problem solver. The role partners closely with Operations Maintenance Engineering and Continuous Improvement teams to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) reduce unplanned downtime and improve asset reliability through Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) predictive maintenance technologies Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and standardized maintenance practices. This position drives a proactive reliability culture by identifying risks before failures occur implementing engineering solutions to recurring equipment issues and leveraging data-driven asset management strategies to improve manufacturing performance.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Develop and maintain long-term asset health strategies for critical manufacturing equipment.
Utilize CMMS downtime maintenance and OEE data to perform Pareto analysis and identify the highest-impact reliability opportunities.
Prioritize engineering resources toward chronic failure modes and production bottlenecks that materially impact plant performance.
Own and track reliability KPIs including MTBF MTTR PM Compliance OEE Availability and downtime reduction.
Develop reliability improvement plans based on equipment performance and asset health trends.
Design implement and continuously improve Reliability-Centered Maintenance programs across manufacturing assets.
Lead initiatives that transition facilities from reactive maintenance practices toward predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.
Establish standard reliability methodologies workflows and governance processes across PBV operations.
Lead reliability knowledge-sharing efforts across PBV facilities.
Drive replication of successful corrective actions engineering improvements and maintenance best practices.
Eliminate recurring equipment failures through sustainable defect elimination processes.
Serve as the reliability engineering representative for capital projects and equipment installations.
Review equipment specifications and designs to ensure maintainability and reliability requirements are incorporated.
Support FAT SAT commissioning and startup activities for new equipment.
Ensure maintenance plans spare parts strategies and reliability standards are established before equipment turnover.
Facilitate Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities with cross-functional teams.
Identify equipment vulnerabilities and develop mitigation plans to reduce operational risk.
Implement strategies that prevent catastrophic failures and production interruptions.
Lead implementation and expansion of predictive maintenance technologies.
Define monitoring strategies sensor requirements and alarm thresholds for critical assets.
Utilize vibration analysis thermography ultrasound lubrication analysis and digital condition-monitoring technologies to improve reliability.
Leverage IIoT-enabled monitoring and asset health data to support proactive maintenance decisions.
Lead investigations into major equipment failures chronic downtime events and recurring production interruptions.
Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to identify true failure mechanisms.
Implement permanent corrective actions through equipment redesign component upgrades maintenance plan revisions and process improvements.
Support manufacturing teams during significant downtime events and recovery efforts.
Partner with Operations and Continuous Improvement teams to identify and eliminate speed losses.
Analyze equipment operating below OEM performance standards.
Develop solutions that eliminate bottlenecks micro-stoppages recurring jams and mechanical constraints.
Restore equipment performance to rated production capacity while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Improve maintenance precision through development of standardized work processes.
Convert maintenance activities into detailed procedures embedded within CMMS systems.
Develop standardized overhaul procedures for critical assets.
Establish lubrication inspection and equipment care standards to reduce variation and improve execution.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to maintenance operations and engineering teams on reliability best practices.
Support development of reliability capabilities throughout the organization.
Influence cross-functional teams to drive sustainable reliability improvements without direct supervisory authority.
Partner with Operations and Continuous Improvement teams to improve OEE performance.
Participate in Kaizen events loss analysis activities and focused improvement initiatives.
Track and validate results generated by reliability improvement efforts.
Ensure all reliability and maintenance activities support safety food safety environmental and quality requirements.
Promote safe maintenance practices including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) hazard mitigation and risk reduction.
Support quality objectives through reliable equipment performance and effective maintenance execution.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Industrial Engineering Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in high-speed automated packaging bottling beverage manufacturing or consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturing environments.
Demonstrated experience performing Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and reliability improvement projects.
Working knowledge of Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) preventive maintenance predictive maintenance and asset management principles.
Experience using CMMS systems downtime analysis tools and manufacturing performance metrics.
Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive sustainable operational improvements.
Valid drivers license and ability to travel up to 25-40% as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Beverage bottling or consumer packaged goods manufacturing experience.
Experience with vibration analysis thermography ultrasound monitoring or other predictive maintenance technologies.
CMRP (Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional) certification.
Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.
Experience supporting capital project execution commissioning and startup activities.
Experience implementing reliability programs across multiple manufacturing locations.
