The Manufacturing Engineer will support our NASA customer on the Marshall Engineering Technical and Trade Services (METTS) Contract. The Manufacturing Engineer will support developing improving and supporting manufacturing processes/systems equipment and methods to increase efficiency quality safety and cost effectiveness. This role works closely with production/machine shop quality maintenance supply chain and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and implement sustainable process improvements. Manufacturing Engineer duties include but are not limited to:
- Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques procedures and criteria.
- Identifies opportunities to improve products or reduce costs.
- Determines root causes of failures and recommends changes in designs tolerances or processing methods.
- Incorporates new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
- Supervises technicians technologists analysts administrative staff or other engineers.
- Troubleshoots new or existing product problems involving designs materials or processes.
- Reviews product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
- Trains production personnel in new or existing methods.
- Communicates manufacturing capabilities production schedules or other information to facilitate production processes.
- Designs installs or troubleshoots manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to interface with customers/teammates at all levels.
- All other duties as assigned.
- This position is subject to random drug testing.
Required Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Requires ability to obtain and maintain a NASA Public Trust. This includes the ability to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
- Candidate must have approximately 5 years of applicable experience.
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Engineering mathematics or similar is required. Applicable manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Prior exposure to Machine Shop/Midsize manufacturing/production environments is required.
- Must be able to pass a MSFC physical examination for any required safety-related certifications.
- All positions supporting the METTS III contract require successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. The need for these screenings is determined based on the outcomes of the Safety Health and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.
- Must be able to lift 40lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Manufacturing process improvement experience is desired.
- Previous manufacturing process planning experience is desired.
