The Manager of Respiratory Therapy oversees the strategic management daily operations clinical practice and regulatory compliance of respiratory care services. This role is responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams across single or multiple clinical sites driving evidence-based patient care standards optimizing resource allocation and ensuring high-quality therapy services in an inpatient setting.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Manage engage and mentor respiratory care staff; set clear performance expectations and provide continuous coaching.
- Solicit performance feedback support staff professional growth and implement career development plans.
- Promote open dialogue cross-functional collaboration and effective delegation across teams.
- Lead adapt and implement organizational change industry best practices and operational processes.
Operational & Resource Management
- Translate strategic business plans into tactical work plans establishing clear operational goals and performance metrics.
- Oversee team allocation equipment inventory supply chain management and equipment sanitization to maximize cost efficiency.
- Facilitate strategic planning staffing models and budget management in alignment with organizational priorities.
- Navigate and manage operations effectively within a unionized workforce environment.
Clinical Quality & Evidence-Based Practice
- Implement and update evidence-based clinical practice standards protocols and workflows across site(s).
- Guide clinical teams on complex patient assessments treatment plan modifications and discharge planning.
- Ensure safe administration of medications advanced respiratory procedures and strict infection control measures.
- Monitor clinical outcomes and deliver targeted training to staff members families and multidisciplinary teams.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure strict departmental alignment with federal state and local healthcare regulations.
- Proactively identify and mitigate clinical and workplace safety risks; oversee the reporting and resolution of safety incidents or hazards.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security protocols for all patient and organizational records.
- Lead administrative and regulatory reporting processes.
Service Quality & Performance Improvement
- Manage quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery patient safety and operational efficiency.
- Address and resolve complex service concerns unusual occurrences (UOs) and patient grievances.
- Collaborate with cross-functional healthcare leaders to streamline care coordination and elevate the patient experience.
- Leverage data analytics to implement innovative data-driven solutions for therapy service delivery.
Mandatory Requirements
- Inpatient Management Experience: Minimum 3 years of direct inpatient Respiratory Therapy management experience (manager-level required; supervisory experience alone does not qualify) within a hospital setting.
- Clinical Specialization: Proven clinical experience in both inpatient adult care and Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) environments.
- Union Experience: Recent hands-on experience working within a unionized healthcare environment.
- Total Healthcare Experience: Minimum 7 years of total experience in respiratory therapy or a directly related healthcare field.
- Leadership Track Record: Minimum 3 years in a leadership role (with or without direct reports).
Licensing & Certifications (Required at Hire)
- Active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License State of California.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Education
- Bachelors degree in Respiratory Therapy Health Care Administration or a closely related field required
