How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Payroll Manger you will be responsible for overseeing accurate and timely payroll and tax processing for our U.S. Canadian Mexican and South African employees.
This role provides leadership and oversight for global payroll operations including payroll processing payroll tax compliance vendor management audit support and regulatory adherence. The ideal candidate will bring deep payroll expertise strong people leadership skills and a proven ability to manage complex payroll operations while delivering a high-quality employee experience.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX your core responsibilities will be:
1. Payroll Management:
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for US Canadian Mexican and South African employees ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies and government regulations.
- Review and validate timekeeping records employee deductions and other payroll-related data to ensure accurate calculations.
- Ensure compliance with federal state and provincial regulations including tax withholding garnishments and statutory deductions.
- Manage processing of payroll taxes and resolve any state/federal notices manage new tax account setup.
- Perform periodic audits to validate payroll data ensuring accuracy completeness and compliance with internal controls and external regulations.
2. Team Supervision and Collaboration:
- Lead and supervise a team responsible for payroll administration and providing guidance training performance feedback and workload prioritization.
- Collaborate with HR HRIS Finance and other departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll data with other systems and processes.
- Maintain effective communication with employees and provide assistance in resolving payroll-related inquiries or issues.
3. Payroll Process Improvement
- Utilize payroll and HR systems effectively ensuring data accuracy system integrity and efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements automation and standardization.
- Stay current on changes in payroll legislation tax regulations labor laws and HR compliance regulations ensuring best practices are embedded in payroll processes.
What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience Skills Education)
We each bring something to the table and we are looking for someone who:
Required Experience & Skills
- At least 5 years of experience in payroll and payroll tax administration
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations tax laws and employment standard
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Experience managing and supervising a team of payroll administrators
- Experience using Ceridian Dayforce
- Experience processing union and pension payrolls
Education & Certifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration or a related field is preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or other relevant certifications are a plus
Travel & Working Environment
- Occasional travel might be required for this role
- Hybrid work schedule
