JOB DESCRIPTION:
- This is a dual role manager and engineer position.
- It requires a leader that can staff develop and drive a team of both engineers and designers to accomplish program work.
- This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to design and maintain the companys FOS product lines during new product design development and sustain production across a multidisciplinary team.
- This individual must be able to work within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications.
- In addition this role supports production of existing products working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues document changes and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead mentor and develop a team of engineers and designers
- Support hiring workforce planning and performance management
- Foster a collaborative accountable and continuous improvement culture
- Provide inputs (material and labor estimates technical content) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
- Define maintain and improve the departments development processes and best practices
- Serve as lead mechanical engineer responsible for design integrity and product performance and compliance
- Drive mechanical design decisions across new product development and legacy product support
- Develop and refine mechanical designs in accordance with internal standards and customer specifications
- Apply GD&T tolerance analysis and sound engineering principles to ensure manufacturability and performance
- Perform engineering calculations and collaborate with analysts to validate designs (FEA thermal shock/vibration)
- Define and execute design verification strategies (shock vibration thermal acceleration etc.)
- Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviews
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry customer and regulatory standards
- Support production by troubleshooting issues implementing design updates and improving processes
- Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve nonconformances and drive corrective actions
- US Citizenship is REQUIRED (an active clearance is a plus but not required)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related lieu of a degree minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Professional experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge SolidWorks NX etc
- Professional experience with GD&T application and interpretation according to ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100
- Professional experience with dimensional stack-up/tolerance analysis
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Strong fundamentals in mechanics vibration fatigue and thermal concepts
- Experience with DFMA and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems and working in a regulated environment
- Experience with FEA tools and test validation methods
- Advanced degree (MS) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- An active DoW Secret Security Clearance
