Environment Health Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Manager

Join our team as an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager and help shape a world-class safety culture within a leading biotechnology this highly visible role you will partner across the Manufacturing and Clinical Supply organization with specific focus on Quality Assurance Quality Control Manufacturing Engineering Facilities and Warehouse Operations to drive strategic EHS initiatives that protect our people support innovation and enable operational excellence.

As a trusted advisor and leader you will champion risk management regulatory compliance and continuous improvement while influencing business decisions across the organization. Based at our headquarters in Thousand Oaks California this role offers the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams solve complex challenges and help deliver life-changing therapies in a fast-paced mission-driven environment.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Quality Assurance Quality Control Manufacturing Facilities & Engineering and Warehouse Operations to strengthen a proactive safety culture and effectively manage EHS risks across the organization.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for critical EHS programs including hazardous gas safety lockout/tagout (LOTO) confined space entry fall protection non-routine and hazardous work environmental compliance and other core EHS programs.

  • Lead ergonomic assessments and implement practical solutions that improve employee well-being and reduce musculoskeletal injury risks in both office and manufacturing environments.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS risk assessments that identify hazards evaluate operational risks and establish sustainable engineering administrative and procedural controls.

  • Leverage EHS performance data and leading indicators to identify trends drive continuous improvement initiatives and measure progress against organizational objectives.

  • Conduct workplace inspections compliance assessments and field observations to identify opportunities reinforce safe behaviors and ensure adherence to regulatory and company standards.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS requirements into change management activities ensuring operational changes are evaluated for potential safety and environmental impacts before implementation.

  • Lead incident response investigations and root cause analyses driving effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) that strengthen organizational learning and prevent recurrence.

  • Facilitate EHS business reviews with functional leaders providing strategic insights monitoring performance and driving accountability for key safety and environmental initiatives.

  • Build trusted partnerships across all levels of the organization by providing expert EHS guidance influencing decision-making and promoting employee engagement through coaching communication and education.

  • Support regulatory inspections internal audits and customer assessments while ensuring timely completion of corrective actions and sustained compliance.

  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency reduce risk and advance the organizations EHS performance.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree OR

  • Masters degree and 2 years of EHSS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment OR

  • Bachelors degree and 4 years of EHSS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment OR

  • Associates degree and 8 years of EHSS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years of EHSS experience within a cGMP manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in safety industrial hygiene chemical engineering mechanical engineering chemistry biology or other life science areas

  • Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying Cal/OSHA regulations and other relevant EHS standards to ensure compliance within business operations and support risk-based decision-making.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization and quality.

  • Demonstrated leadership in EHS programs within manufacturing or laboratory settings with the ability to effectively influence both staff and management.

  • 57 years of EHS experience in the pharmaceutical biotechnology or related life sciences industry with a focus on implementing/managing EHS programs.

  • Professional certification such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with a proactive self-motivated approach to program development and project execution.

  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to develop clear concise and compliant EHS documentation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools used for data analysis reporting and presentations.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to relevant skills experience and qualifications.
