Job Summary
Position Overview
The Motion Control Systems division is seekinga ManagerII Engineering North America Applications and Systemslocatedonsite at our global headquarters in Radford Virginia. This role leads the North America Level 2 Applications Engineering and Systems Engineering team. The position reports functionally through Product Engineering with a dotted-line relationship to the MCS Global Vice President of Sales because its primary activities are customer-facing.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative hands-on leader with strong structured problem-solving skills who can balance strategic improvement work with daily support for key customer accounts.
Tactically theManagerleads immediate technicalproblemsolvingleveragingthe team ensuring products meet customer requirements and functionas-intended.Both internally and in processes that involve customers(e.g.commissioning experiences)theManagerdrivesefficiencyandproductivitygains.This function leadstechnical support to sales and customersresolvingquerieswith a goal towardcustomer satisfaction.
StrategicallytheManagerdrives innovation by integratingnew technologiesand systemswith purposeanda goal of customer success.It contributes to strategic planning by forecasting future technical needs as an input to product planning.The position ensureshigh standardsininteroperabilityand inthe outcomes of our product developmentsmaintainingthe companys reputation for quality and reliability.
KeyResponsibilities
- Both pre-sale and post-salecustomerengagements arewithin the responsibilities of thisrolehowever focus is on post-sales customer support of MCS products and systems.
- Collaborates closely with the L1 pre-sales Applications team to ensure cross-functionalalignment and interactions resulting in a more seamless and positive customer experience.
- Collaboratewith EMEAI andAsiaApplications Engineering teams toleveragesharedknowledge experienceandcapabilities; adoptbest practices;anddrivestandardization across regions.
- Responsible forleadingtracking andmaintainingdata for Policy DeploymentTargets to Improve andKey Performance Indicatorsand achieving them through a closed-loop continuous improvement and problem-solving approach involving:driving changes through kaizens and process improvement developing tools and building the team to support the growth of the business.
- Manage the North America Product Training function to ensure effective planning and delivery of external customer training both in-house and at customer sites.
- Oversee responsibilities that include:
- Coordinatingschedulingandfacilitatinglive training sessions scheduled periodically throughout the year both on-site and off-site.
- Creating andmaintainingtraining content including presentation materials anddemo/test units used during the class.
- Designing coursework and class syllabus to ensure maximum interest and impact to our customers. - Establishstandard work thatdefines the North Americasupport structure and interfaces with otherbusinessfunctions.
- Promotes the growth and development of applications and systems teams at all levels toexpand the capabilities andexpertisewithin the group including L1.
- Responsible forassistingNorth AmericaProduction Quality and Engineering teams with defining quality issues and testing new products in development per customer requirements.
- Responsible formaking determinations of need andscheduling field service visits for troubleshootingcommissioningand training purposes.
- Responsible for managing the budget of theApplications andSystems Engineering team.
- Travel up to 25% to customer sites.

- Understanding ofmotion control theoryand essential components.
- Understanding of various fieldbus protocols
- Experience withthe use ofmulti-metersoscilloscopesand data recorders for the purpose of troubleshooting product & systems issues.
- Experienced withEMC/EMIissues includingwiringshieldingand grounding practices.
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineeringor a related technical field.
- 10 yearsof industrial experience in Industrial Automation ina technicaldiscipline.
- Minimum3yearsapplication engineering systems engineering or design engineering with heavy customer interface required.
- Management or leadership experience.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Masters degree in Electrical Engineeringor a related technical field.
