Description of Work
The North Carolina Zoo is seeking a self-motivated and team-oriented Maintenance/Construction Technician II for its Construction Crew and General Maintenance sections. The Construction Crew and General Maintenance sections include construction of animal caging and small in-house projects general building and park maintenance. This position will work both independently and with others assisting in all areas of maintenance and construction. Trades include general building maintenance steel fabrication and general park maintenance. This position will be assigned to general maintenance but will be required to perform other tasks as needed and may be reassigned to a different group of trades such as plumbing mechanical and/or electrical depending on the needs of the organization. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor animal exhibits buildings and other structures as well as outside in varying weather conditions.Key Responsibilities
Perform general building maintenance and repairs.
Complete general construction tasks as needed.
Carry out steel fabrication work including cutting and welding.
Assist with facility improvements and structural repairs.
Maintain tools equipment and a safe work environment.

Position/Physical Requirements
Typical Work schedule: MondayFriday 7am 4pm.
Required to work weekend and holidays on-call rotations.
Must be available to work after hours and weekend hours when necessary and available for on-call and emergency call-back within 45 minutes.
Job offer is contingent upon passing a pre-employment screen conducted by assigned provider.
This position is designated asEssential/Mandatoryandis required to work adverse weather events andmay be calledto work special events.
Required to participate in the zoos occupational health program due to contact with animal containment areas.
Must have a valid drivers license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within90 daysof employment.
Must be able to regularly and safely: lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to bend stoop and work in tight spaces; climb stairs and ladders; move over and about all types of equipment to inspect analyze and perform repairs with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to stand for the majority of the day; endure extended outdoor field conditions at any time of the year; negotiate uneven outdoor terrain on foot; and drive motor vehicles at day and at night with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
and
One (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas;
or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 82 Subpart F.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
