These are permanent full-time Career-Seasonal appointments. Please see the Duties section below for more detailed information about Career-Seasonal schedules hourly pay rates etc. for both locations.These WGMaintenance Worker positions are Career-Seasonal appointments which are permanent positions that include the same benefits as Career (year-round) appointments but do not provide work on a year-round basis. For both locations you can expect to be in a non-pay status for a maximum of one pay period (2 weeks) each year. Flagstaff Area National Monuments have non-pay between early November to early December and Lewis & Clark National Historical Park has non-pay scheduled between early February to late February.
Maintenance Workers are part of the Facility Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of these positions is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher-graded maintenance workers. Incumbents utilize knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

- At the Lewis & Clark National Historical Park location selectee will also perform a wide range of trail maintenance and construction tasks using hand and power tools to maintain safe and accessible park trails.
Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds unassisted following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working climb ladders or scaffolding and bend stoop climb and work in awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90 degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust dirt wind and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints solvents etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects.

- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- DRIVERS LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid drivers license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operators License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities) and at your own expense all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid drivers licenses whether current or past possessed by you.
- You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- HOUSING: Park/Government housing may be available at Flagstaff AZ location only.
- UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- WORK SCHEDULE: Depending on location you may be required to work on-call evenings weekends holidays and/or overtime.
- TRAVEL: You may be required to travel occasionally. Overnight away from home is rare normally for training purposes. You may be required to obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

To qualify for this position you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

- Carpentry (constructs installs repairs and replace items such as doors shelves etc.);
- Painting (preparing surfaces determine painting materials to be used and method of application and painting a variety of surfaces);
- Plumbing (replace various valves unions elbows fixtures toilets faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines cut and thread pipes winterize water systems etc.);
- Roofing (repairs and patching tar and paper metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles);
- Electrical (repairs including removing replacing tightening splicing and insulating defective wiring and fixtures;
- Cement Finishing (building and setting forms for sidewalks and steps mixes pours spreads and levels cement and concrete in preparation for final finishing;
- Masonry (maintenance measures determines amount of concrete sets forms pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications);
3. Ability to Interpret Instructions Specifications etc. (includes blueprint reading).

AREA INFORMATION:
FLAGSTAFF AREA NATIONAL MONUMENTS
The incumbent will be required to work within the Flagstaff Area National Monuments which consist of Sunset Crater Volcano Walnut Canyon and Wupatki National Monuments. Flagstaff has an elevation of 7000 ft. and includes multiple K-12 public and private schools Northern Arizona University a diverse community medical and other support services. The rental and home markets in Flagstaff can be relatively expensive and limited. Summers in Flagstaff are warm with temperatures in the 80s and frequent monsoon thunderstorms. Winters are cold with low temperatures near zero and snow averaging around 90 inches. Recreational opportunities in both areas cross all four seasons in environments ranging from low deserts to high mountains and include hiking backpacking fishing cross-country and downhill skiing and golfing in nearby communities.
LEWIS & CLARK NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK
Astoria sits at the mouth of the Columbia River where forested hills meet the Pacific Ocean. As the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies the town blends historic character with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Astoria is near several state and federal recreation sites.
The area offers easy access to year-round outdoor activities such as hiking fishing kayaking and sandy beaches. Astoria serves as the regional hub for Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington. Despite its small size Astoria provides a full range of amenities: grocery stores local shops schools medical services and a historic downtown with museums excellent restaurants and waterfront pathways. The city is less than two hours from Portland connecting Astoria to a major airport and additional services while maintaining the slower pace and close-knit feel of a coastal community.
For Lewis & Clark National Historical Park selectee ONLY: Travel transportation and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.
