Job Summary

DEFINITION OF POSITION: The Maintenance Technician performs a variety of craft and technical maintenance tasks both general and specialized in support of the Maintenance Department.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Maintenance Supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in general building/grounds maintenance services
  • Knowledge of mechanical electrical and plumbing (including WSHP maintenance and repair) systems related to HVAC
  • Possess a current valid drivers license
  • Available to work hours outside of normal shift (emergency snow removal and other after hours activities)
  • Be in good physical condition lifting and carrying over 50 pounds is required
  • Possess or obtain a current valid first aid and CPR card within one month of employment or at next available district training
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid state drivers license with C.D.L. endorsements of class B passenger S endorsement and air brake restriction removed within 3 months of hire

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in one or more of the following trades: HVAC class III boiler landscape and grounds pesticide and fertilizer application mechanical electrical plumbing carpentry painting and/or construction
  • Experience operating a tractor backhoe ATV truck and power equipment
  • License certification or equivalent training in one or more of the following trades: HVAC asbestos abatement class III boiler (or greater) landscape and grounds pesticide and fertilizer application mechanical electrical plumbing and/or carpentry
  • Ability to work with electronic components including P.A. systems and building clocks
  • Experience with computer/digital controls related to HVAC
  • Ability to read building mechanical drawings and prints

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Perform building/facilities maintenance functions and necessary specialized maintenance tasks as required
  • Perform repairs installation of equipment and structural improvements of buildings and grounds as required
  • Perform summer facilities and grounds maintenance activities
  • Perform maintenance painting jobs throughout the district (possible occasional swing shift)
  • Assist in winter snow removal activities coordinating with the building principals and building custodians
  • Assist with when necessary student transportation
  • Assist with the delivery of food and supplies to schools for the Nutrition Services Department
  • Safely operate and work from ladders and lifts
  • Perform specialized craftwork associated with repair installation and maintenance of equipment/facilities in accordance with WISHA and OSHA specifications and local/state building codes
  • Perform and/or assist with the following grounds maintenance functions: fertilizing aerating top dressing and over-seeding of grounds; licensed/certified in application of herbicides solid/liquid fertilizers and rodent baits/insect sprays; planning planting and care of shrubs trees and other cover vegetation for erosion control and windbreak purposes;pruning and cultivation of shrubs and trees;lining and marking of playing fields and sterilization of appropriate areas; and irrigation of lawns shrubs and cultivated areas utilizing automatic underground water systems and manual sprinkler/hose methods
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and repair on vehicles tractors mowers and underground water/irrigation systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair small two and four-cycle gas engines
  • Perform materials/supplies procurement and help to maintain applicable records
  • Work positively with a wide variety of people both inside and outside of the organization
  • Work with colleagues in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Deal with district employees other agencies and the public in a positive and productive manner
  • Communicate clearly orally and in writing
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: Unrepresented Classified Employee Maintenance Technician: $31.01 - $36.63 per hour
  • Length of Contract: 8 hours/day (7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) 260 days/year
  • Benefits/Leaves: Medical dental vision life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per board policy.
