Job Summary

Description
Tofurky is hiring a Maintenance Technician II to join our Maintenance team! This is a full-time onsite position at our Hood River Oregon facility.
The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for maintaining troubleshooting repairing and improving production equipment in a food manufacturing environment. This position has a strong emphasis on troubleshooting of automated processing and packaging equipment while supporting electrical mechanical pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The technician performs preventative and corrective maintenance to maximize equipment reliability minimize production downtime and ensure compliance with food safety quality and workplace safety standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics mechanical drawings P&IDs and OEM manuals.
  • Troubleshoot diagnose and repair electrical mechanical pneumatic and hydraulic failures on food processing and packaging equipment.
  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting using wiring diagrams electrical schematics multimeters clamp meters and other diagnostic tools.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment by identifying electrical faults failed inputs/outputs sensors motor controls communication issues and component failures.
  • Install repair and replace motors VFDs contractors overloads relays power supplies transformers circuit breakers sensors photo eyes proximity switches limit switches encoders and control devices.
  • Perform preventive predictive and corrective maintenance on production packaging conveying and material handling equipment.
  • Respond quickly to equipment failures to minimize downtime while maintaining food safety and product quality.
  • Assist with equipment startups changeovers line adjustments and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Work closely with production quality sanitation and other teams to resolve equipment issues efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records work orders and parts inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) HACCP requirements allergen control procedures and sanitary maintenance practices.
  • Perform maintenance activities in a manner that supports food safety and minimizes contamination risks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop and work area.


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or vocational training in Industrial Maintenance Mechatronics Electrical Technology or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferably food or beverage manufacturing.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills involving 24VDC 120VAC 240VAC 480VAC and three-phase industrial systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled production equipment (Allen-Bradley or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of VFDs motor controls industrial sensors HMIs and automated control systems.
  • Proficiency using electrical testing equipment and standard maintenance tools.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and or ERPs.
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to resolve equipment and process issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with food processing packaging filling and conveying equipment.
  • Basic PLC programming or online troubleshooting experience.
  • Certification in NFPA 70E Electrical Safety OSHA safety training or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of BRC HACCP GMP and food safety regulations.

Physical Demands

This job operates in an office setting with frequent exposure to the production areas.

  • Ability to stand walk bend kneel or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs climb ladders and work in hot cold or wet conditions.
  • Comfortable working in wet noisy or varied temperature environments.
  • Ability to use ladders work in tight spaces and move equipment as needed.
  • Comfortable working in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a hourly non-exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This role is on-site and remote work is not offered. Flexibility in work schedule is occasionally required to accommodate needs of staff on multiple shifts and based on business priorities. Infrequently required to work on weekends based on needs of the business.
