How youll contribute

AMaintenance Mechanicwho excels in this role:

  • Perform routine and skilled maintenance troubleshooting repairs and preventive maintenance throughout the hospital and associated facilities.

  • Respond to work orders and service requests involving electrical HVAC plumbing mechanical and general building maintenance needs.

  • Troubleshoot facility issues to identify the source of equipment system or building component failures and determine appropriate corrective action.

  • Perform basic electrical maintenance and troubleshooting including lighting switches receptacles electrical components and other systems within training and qualifications.

  • Maintain and repair HVAC and mechanical equipment including filters belts motors pumps fans and related components.

  • Perform routine plumbing repairs involving fixtures toilets faucets drains valves piping components leaks and related systems.

  • Complete general building repairs and improvements including doors and hardware drywall painting patching carpentry cabinetry and other construction-related work.

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on hospital equipment building systems and critical facility infrastructure.

  • Support maintenance inspections and testing of boilers emergency generators fire/life-safety systems medical gas support systems and other hospital utilities as assigned.

  • Assist licensed contractors and vendors with inspections testing repairs and specialized services that are not performed internally.

  • Support facility renovation construction equipment installation and improvement projects.

  • Identify and promptly communicate unsafe conditions equipment failures water leaks electrical hazards life-safety concerns and other facility deficiencies.

  • Prioritize urgent maintenance needs that could affect patient care safety critical utilities or hospital operations.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work orders preventive maintenance inspections and repairs within the facilitys maintenance management system.

  • Follow hospital safety infection-control Lockout/Tagout ICRA ILSM and other applicable procedures while performing maintenance activities.

  • Maintain clean safe and organized mechanical rooms maintenance areas shops tools and equipment.

  • Assist with exterior facility maintenance grounds-related needs snow removal and other Plant Operations responsibilities as needed.

  • Participate in emergency response activities and the departments on-call rotation following completion of appropriate training.

  • Work collaboratively across Plant Operations sharing responsibility for patient safety compliance facility operations and department priorities rather than limiting responsibilities to a single trade or specialty.

  • Perform other Plant Operations and facility maintenance duties as assigned.

What were looking for
Applicants should have a High school diploma GED or equivalent required. Additional requirements include:

  • Previous hands-on experience in maintenance construction a skilled trade or a related field required.

  • Practical experience troubleshooting and completing repairs involving one or more of the following areas: electrical HVAC plumbing mechanical equipment carpentry construction or general building maintenance.

  • Ability and willingness to learn additional building systems and maintenance disciplines through hands-on training.

  • Ability to use hand tools power tools meters and other maintenance equipment safely.

  • Basic ability to read and interpret equipment instructions diagrams schematics or related maintenance documentation.

  • Ability to identify problems troubleshoot issues and determine when a repair can be completed independently or should be escalated.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-skilled Plant Operations team.

  • Strong communication reliability initiative and commitment to maintaining a safe environment for patients staff and visitors.

  • Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation once appropriately trained.

  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position including lifting up to 50 pounds climbing ladders working above ceilings and in mechanical spaces and working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of commercial industrial institutional construction or facility maintenance experience.

  • Electrical maintenance or troubleshooting experience strongly preferred.

  • HVAC experience particularly in a commercial or industrial environment.

  • Plumbing carpentry drywall painting concrete framing or other construction/trade experience.

  • Previous experience maintaining commercial or institutional building systems.

  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or electronic work-order systems.

  • Experience with boilers emergency generators building automation systems fire/life-safety systems medical gas support equipment pumps motors or other facility systems.

  • Previous hospital or healthcare facility maintenance experience.

  • Relevant HVAC electrical plumbing OSHA NFPA facilities maintenance or other technical training/certifications.

Hospital maintenance experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with transferable experience from construction commercial/industrial maintenance skilled trades or other complex facility environments are encouraged to apply.
