Job Summary
The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. All of the duties described by this position may not exist in each location but that should not preclude use of this position.
- Applies health sanitary and mechanical principles to operate and maintain water treatment systems including microbiological and chemical processes.
- Operates treatment equipment such as hypochlorinators filters pumps solution tanks and valves for both surface and well water systems.
- Performs maintenance and repair on mechanical electrical and pneumatic equipment used in water and wastewater treatment operations.
- Executes a wide range of carpentry tasks including constructing frameworks modifying structures installing interior/exterior finishes and building cabinetry and countertops.
- Conducts electrical repairs by replacing faulty wiring and components troubleshooting circuits and interpreting electrical codes and technical drawings.
- Installs modifies and repairs plumbing systems and fixtures using trade tools and techniques to ensure proper system layout operation and maintenance; operates heavy equipment for grading roads clearing snow and maintaining drainage systems.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Vehicle Operation: You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- Water and Waster License: You will have 24 months to obtain a Texas Water and Waster Level D license.
- Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest meet the organization goals and mission of the agency and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the determining if your employment advances the public interest the agency will consider:
- your performance and conduct;
- the needs and interests of the agency;
- whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and
- whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Under applicable law the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies in writing that the individuals employment should continue and that their appointment should be the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period such appointments are terminated.
Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification in writing that your continued employment advances the public interest.

To qualify for this position you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

SCREEN OUTS:
Minimum Qualification: Have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform most of the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. At this level I have performed the work without more than normal supervision. I have performed at this level in two of the following trades: Carpentry Plumbing Painting Masonry Water Treatment Plant Operations or Roofing.
Drivers License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid drivers license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operators License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities) and at your own expense all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid drivers licenses whether current or past possessed by you.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90 degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust dirt wind and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints solvents etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects.
Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
ICTAP/CTAP: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
