Purpose Statement
The job of Maintenance Assistant was established for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities for students staff and public in a safe operating condition; performing preventive maintenance; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.
Essential Functions
- Assists in the demolition of (e.g. equipment facilities and structures) for the purpose of ensuring safety and/or preparing for new construction.
- Assists journey -level craftsmen (e.g. carpenters plumbers electricians painters carpet layers etc.) for the purpose of supporting them in the completion or their work activities.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. (Example. Tech signage panels TV brackets whiteboard removal and installation.)
- Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels operates snow blower and/or snowplow) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
- Builds items (e.g. counters temporary partitions etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
- Estimates repair or construction requirements for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials and equipment as needed.
- Maintains work areas tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring a safe working environment and/or the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports various items (e.g. tools equipment supplies etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position
- Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration direct interaction with team members other staff students and/or guardians and access to on-site equipment and resources.
Other Functions
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Physical Demands
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing climbing crawling crouching feeling fingering grasping handling hearing kneeling lifting mental acuity pulling pushing reaching repetitive motion speaking standing stooping talking visual acuity and walking.
Working Conditions
Employees in this position work in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals priorities and needs. Will work on Ladders scaffolding and lifts.
Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (Skills Knowledge and Abilities)
- Must be able to operate equipment used in trade including general hand and power tools saws threaders manlift forklift etc.
- Must have knowledge of safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
- Experience: 3-4 Years experience preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
