The State of Connecticut Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is currently looking to hire a Maintainerfor Eli Whitney Technical High School in Hamden CT. This on-site position is great for someone who is looking to work year-round with the New England seasonal elements specifically in grounds building and custodial work.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • SHIFT: Full-time first shift 37.5 hours per week
  • SCHEDULE: 7AM 3PM Monday through Friday
  • NOTE: While CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar this position is year-round!

          YOUR ROLE

          The role of a Maintainer within CTECS includes a wide range of tasks to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the school facilities. The candidates selected for this position will be tasked with various duties including but not limited to:

          • Lawn care such as mowing grass and managing weeds;
          • General maintenance of tools and equipment;
          • Moving loading and unloading and sometimes assembling supplies and equipment;
          • Snow and ice removal during winter months to ensure safe passage for students faculty and visitors;
          • additional duties related to budling and groundskeeping including manual lifting.

            The Maintainers role is integral to the schools commitment to providing a safe and functional academic environment. While CTECS follows a ten-month academic calendar this position is year-round and Maintainers must report to work in various conditions.

              PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

              In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training; most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:

              • Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial);
              • Grounds care;
              • Food services;
              • Operation of trucks of less than five (5) ton capacity;
              • Parking garage.
              EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

              • Skills

              MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
              Any experience and training which provide the knowledge skills and abilities listed above.
              PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
              • Maintenance experience in a school setting or large building.
              • Experience with lawn care such as mowing grass and managing weeds and brush.
              • Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around large buildings.
              • Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
              SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
              Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses permits and/or certifications.
              PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
              • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength stamina physical agility visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
              • A physical examination may be required.
              WORKING CONDITIONS
              • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.
              • Incumbents in this class may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
